Just wondering at this stage as mine are nearly new (only done about 3000-4000). I have only used Tourances on the GS as standard, but tried TKC80s for a low miles. I am happy with the Tourances on the road, but they are not confidence inspiring once you get off tarmac and a camping field is just a disaster waiting to happen I feel....TKC80s are mighty noisy on the road and you can tell you are riding a square tyre, it is 'odd' going into corners, but it doesn't slide, youjust have to get used to it, but by gum don't they disappear fast! I can't afford to run TKC80s as a standard tyre, they don't last long enough for me.

So, other suggestions that have been made: Conti Escape or Conti TKC70s.

Any knowledge of these on 1150 Adv please? :bow

Rears will wear out quickly on the road, if your going around camp sites regurely try a KC on the front, they wear well handle ok and stabilise the front wheel which goes and takes you with it. Have done thousands of miles through Alaska and South America with no probs, alternativly get a spare front wheel fit a KC and put it on for camping trips.

I've not used TK70s but used Conti Escapes on a F650 and wasn't impressed at all in the wet. Didn't like them and i'd imagine on the more powerful oilhead they'd be worse.

Someone else will probably say they love them, but that's tyres for you.

Cheap. Long lasting. Good on tarmac and dirt.

The Tourance is stritcly a road tire. Very lousy in the soft.

I'm running the e07 on my xcountry. Currently 3,000 miles in and the wear isn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting. My rear is a 130/80 and has a band down the middle thats supposes to help with wear.

All that being said, it's performed well and I am two up.

I'll put in a word for Metzler Karoo3's, they work for me on an 1150GS. They give away a bit of tarmac grip and a bit of life (5.5k out of the back vs 7k for the original pre-EXP Tourance) in return for being much better off tarmac. Wet tarmac is the only time I care about the grip compared to Tourances, and it's not bad.

I can't compare to most of the others mentioned, down at the bottom of NZ my local dealer gets me a much better price on the Metzlers than I can find for the others.

I've been running TKC 80's on my 1150GSA for last few years and mainly road use.

Rears are achieving on average 4,500 miles each but front has just been changed at over 15,000 miles !!

For the extra confidence off Tarmac, I think there well worth it :thumb

That is appalling - I get around 12,000 to 13,000 and a best of 15,000 out of a set of Tourances (old style, not the Exp) on the 1150 Adv. I have gone through a few too, now on 105,000 on this one and the one I have just sold 80,000 (I had both running concurrently and generally clock up about 5000 a month through April - October, going to work, which can be anywhere - including Italy!). BUT they are not at all confidence inspiring off the tarmac - I suppose I am expecting too much asking for reasonable off road (not mud plugging, just easy non tarmac tracks, woodland rides that kind of thing) and long mileage!

I'll have a look into the Miras Eo7, never heard of those before.
The Heidenaus are good, I know them, the editor rides with them, and right through the winter (no option, he can't drive!) - but they are bloody expensive.

The Conti TKC70s are supposed to be somewhere between the Road Attack and TKC80s. Might be worth a punt for one pair and see how I get on.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys. :thumby:

Really

From my experience, If you can get 15,000 miles out of a REAR tyre on an 1150GSA, you must be sitting on the handlebars most of the time :aidan

I get 12,000 at least - I would cry if I only got 10,000 and the once, yes I got 15,000 out of the pair. I always change them as a pair, I am not into taking two days out to change tyres for the sake of 2mm of front! While I am at it I do both - I have sold the part worns on ebay and was amazed how much people were prepared to pay for them. I got £35 for one front Tourance with just over 3mm on the tread gauge left.

12,000 - 13,000 is my normal wear rate. I am just light with the right hand, it is MUCH more economical mileage then, fuel goes further, tyres go further, brakes go further and I get less stressed on the trip, so don't end up so tired at the end of the day, which is important. Things tend to last longer mechanically too, which I suppose is why I am still on the original clutch and suspension on the thing, and wheel bearings....the only thing that has let me down was the stupid servo for the brakes, but that has been junked and they work well enough. Tyres get chewed when you accelerate or brake hard, ride smoothly with as few interuptions to progress as possible and they last a lot longer. I know most of you use the things as toys and go screaming around - I use it for donkey like transport and enjoy everyday riding at a pace I can look over the hedges at the wildlife!

17,000 miles from either tyre? Not sure I could do that if I tried. I enjoy motorcycling to too much for that!

Or are you pulling our legs? How the hell do you put up with the shit handling for so long with a worn tyre?

Maybe they're both good riders, after all they do clock up some mileage. :D

After all 17k miles for the majority of GS riders equates to a few years of use. And for king rat to run two bikes, one with 100K and the other with 80K i'd imagine 17k miles comes around fairly quickly.

Hats off to them . Never get even close to that kind of mileage with one set of tyres, but then I've never bothered to try. I do have this nagging thought though about what state the tyre profile must be in? The GS seems quite forgiving to a squared off profile unlike some other bikes I've had, but I can't imagine it's a pleasant ride with knackered tyres (unless you're loaded with luggage which makes it harder to tell).

I have done 2000 this month alone already. My faroes trip was just shy of 1200 miles in one day to get the ferry from Hirstals...the 7 days I was away clocked up 3000 miles round trip. I did Lake Como for ONE day last year. Arrived Friday teatime, did the job on Saturday, rode home Sunday, left Bellagio at 10.00 Italian time, was home in my bed here in Uttoxeter by 03.00 that night.

I see you live in London, you probably earn more in a week than I earn in year - i have to make my tyres last because at £170 a set I can't afford to keep changing them.

Haha. Yea, I live in london but I have the mortgage to match . But I reckon you wanna swap the GS for a helicopter with all that mileage .

Joking aside. I'm impressed with the milage you seem to get
