1 The age old sprocket question i am thinking 49 14, I'm doing morocco in April will be doing the Santander algicras section on motorway what do you guys think ? I did think about a 13t on the front ,
2 valve clearances I'm thinking maybe I should do them now whilst the bikes stripped down, the only thing is I've no manual plus I've never done them before has anyone got any tips on how to go about it or even better any pics when they done there's,

3 I also want to add some extra power sockets but read the alternator or stator is not big enough so do I have to buy a bigger 400 watt or can I have it sorted in any other way ,

4 last but not least I've discovered the wheel spacers are shot, has anyone got the tel phone no or email address of the guy in Germany who do does the stainless steel ones I've found his website but can't seem to translate it on google,

Thanks a lot robbo:beerjug:

1 - thread already on here http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?375522-How-many-teeth-front-or-back-for-greenlaning

2 - get a reprom off ebay good pics and step by step instructions. Never done them but must be easier on the bench

3 - another thread on here somewhere re using a stator of a Dakar, but can be problematic. Depending upon what you are running, it is easy enough to add extra sockets, and I guess you won't be using heated clothing so GPS / Phones / heated grips are normally okay.

4 - scheffmeir (or similar) is quite well known, but I have no contact details.

you have 280 watts its plenty.
i run heated grips, heated vest and aux lights no prob
13t sprocket will be a pain on the road.
standard gearing is ok as long as things are not too technical, drop one on the front is you think the terrain is going to be tricky.
it takes no time to swap the front sprocket on these, take it with you and see how you go:thumby:

Thanks for the replies I've had no luck on ebay 2 I've brought now both fake, but motoworks have one £52.00 ouch,
Hey mikeyboy are you running on the original lights ?.

Try 47/16 for the road and then drop to 47/15 or 14 offroad. Did an offroad trip in Montenegro and Albania a month ago and didn't need anything below 15. You should only need to go to 14 or 13 if its really tough.

As said above, changing front sprocket is easy. Just remember to loctite the bolt (blue) when you put it back in.

Thanks mikecbrxx I've brought talon 47 14 also I've got a 49 13 so il have play, when I got the xc a couple of months ago it had a 49 14 but both are worn although I found them to be ok for the road, I done Albania Montenegro a few years ago on the way down to Greece there are some great trails in Albania always thought I would like to get back that way again .

Usually changing the front sprocket is enough and leave the stock rear (47) alone.

The Balkans were great, though very touristy in the coastal regions.

If you are going to get the stainless wheel spacer set from Stefan, also worth including his aluminium front sprocket guard (case saver) and one of his bash plates. The bash plates are designed to protect the engine cases, pretty much removing the need for engine bars, in most circumstances. I have certainly been off my XC enough times with no hit on the engine.

I've already ordered the wheel spacers an I've got the touretech sprocket cover and the touretech bash plate, I found that Croatia Montenegro was very busy but as soon I hit Albania then it wasn't so busy Macedonia was great as well.
