Anyone on here been to Morocco?...

Thinking of planning a trip next year for around 6 bikes travelling to bilboa/santander then riding thru spain and ferry over to Morocco...

Anybody with any info/routes/digs....do's/dont's.....etc etc....

Thanks in advance!!...............

I'm toying with Morocco as well, so if you are interested in another body...

Best time to go is April (could be cold in Spain) or May/early June. July is too hot. Learn a bit of Berber, a few Arabic phrases, otherwise French will do.

I had a look at the World of BMW route and it's pretty much what I would have chosen. Maybe a side trip to Jebel Tarik (aka Gibraltar), more time in the Rif and Atlas Mountains, and less in the Erfoud/Ouarzazate area. Otherwise excellent.

It's an extremely safe country with racial and religious freedom. Very friendly people who will gladly rip you off but won't steal. Mostly.

Credentials: two visits on bike, five in cars, several by air, plus two weeks last year spent trekking with mules in the High Atlas.

DO DO DO check out the off road routes detailed in Chris Scotts Adventure Motorcycling Handbook. Many are not too difficult but to miss them would be a big shame. So get amongst the Anti Atlas Mountains and northern Sahara. (with a small tent).

You will gets lots of advise elsewhere on this forum re your other queries, I would suggest finding your own digs as you go, they can be cheap, beautiful and plentiful.

Take rehydration salts.

Give yourselves as much time in the south as poss.

Oh and don't eat Horsemeat Tajine.

Have a great trip, going back there myself soon.:)

Ceuta, Katma, Fes, middle and high atlas then out to Erfoud, 500 miles in a day. (Take the left hand route from Fes going south)

Get to the high atlas and then explore would be my recomendation.

Cor! seems that Morocco will be a pretty busy place come Spring 2005! Anyway, where can I get this Scotts Adv Motorcycling Handbook?
