Morocco 2010

Depending on where you live in Belgium, you could get the ferry to Dover and then the ferry down to SAntander. Santander to Algeciras is around 800km...

While you're doing all that you can drive direct to algerciras and save a shed load of money -
Calais bayonne 1 day ( approx 600 miles).
Leave Bayonne 7am arrive algerciras 7pm ( just under 800 miles). Includes stopping for lunch and a group riding.
Even quicker if just a single rider.

And miss the ferry when you arrive back in Ceuta:D

Don't book a return ticket :P just pitch up at the docks and get on the next ferry crossing.

If you have booked a return and you've missed your ferry operaters crossing ( three different ferry operaters use a shift crossing pattern, which means miss your operaters crossing time and you could have a three hout wait until the next crossing, while you watch all the other boats leaving :augie) , pay for the next available crossing and you can get a refund on the unused return section of your ticket from the office you bought it from. ( not many people know that :thumb)

Another reason not to buy a return ticket from the shacks outside of algerciras. They'll be shut or won't give you any refund

Yeah that looks ok. Still have 200Km to do to get to Calais but that's fine.

One alternative I've found is a freight / car train that runs overnight from Lille to Narbonne (Just over the Pyrenees on the FR side). It takes ONLY the bike but for something as cheap at 65 euro. It's up to you to then fly to Narbonne (budget airline) and pick up your bike, which they put in storage for you there. Then you just have to ride across Spain in one long day.

may also be intrested in joining you all if thats ok. travelling from manchester on a 800gs( if it helps i am also a qualified trauma tech) comes in handy in the remote areas.

Great skills to have, you're in!

Contact Araspitfire - he lives in holland and rode from home to algerciras in 2 days in november two years ago. :D And i think he then rode back from morocco to holland in two days.

It's feasible, adding the ~300km to the trip to Calais is not impossible, but it does make it more interesting if the weather is better than it was this year... :eek

You have any details? There's a "bike to beach" service that operates but ridiculously $$$

Contact Billy (http://www.biketruck.com/), will save you time. I talked to him in Mallaga earlier this year, and he can pickup you bike in Calais - but it's not cheap.

My plans are not set in stone yet, but I might join - if there is still space, when I'm done figuring out when would be the best time for me.

My Ride, 1200 GSA 2009

I'm Cheshire UK, and am interested in this trip!
Personal choice ride down and camping, however would go with the majority!

Here's where I'm at....
I'm setting off from Manchester on the 26th March, and looking to be at home having a brew by the 12th April, so I reckon that allows for around 11 days in Moroc.

I'm gonna ride down through France & Spain, and will mix up camping with cheap hotels for the duration of the trip. I'll be doing mix of off road piste and road, but likely more off road than anything. I'm keeping an open mind though as there will be some days where tarmac will be a welcome relief or necessity depending on time, things to see, and condition of pistes...

Will be planning some routes in the next month or two...

I'm on a 1200 GSA...

How many links are there for Morocco?

I guess if you use this link and the other there will be 6 already.

I reckon there'll be about 2000 GS'ers in Moroc in April!!:D:D

This is Stef's open invite though...I put one in the NW section, as I'd like to stay in a small group, 5 at the most, but am keeping an eye in here...:thumb

Chat soon...

If this is Stef's open invite I would like to know his plans as you seem to have taken control of this trip.

You seem to be off road and camping - not my scene as some others on this thread.

What are Stef's plans as I may wish to fit in with him

Karl
