Morocco 2010

maroc april 2010

hey, i, and spikerjack of this parish are planning a scoot down to these parts in april. i wanted to get this trip done last year but was unable. we're planning on 3 weeks and maybe getting into mauritania or some such, so will definitely hook up along the way. 1 day through ireland, 1 day through france, 1 day spain, and then take it as it comes in africa. i'm on an 800gs and he's on an 1150. i'm young and he's decrepit. i'm a legend, he's a wannabee. i like women and he's :ymca. it's all good! :D:augie

maroc,march?

hi guys..aint been on the site for ages.
about the maroc visit. i came on here to find info pre visit.i did it in march this year.things learnt;
rode from hull/dover/france/spain....norf france is boring, time consuming, and bloody cold in march!...would do ply/ports to sant/bilb next time, and do spain france coming back when hopefully weather a bit warmer.
tangiers is a nuthouse, full of arfur dayley touts! if you are in a group,be ok,but they hit you in groups,to 'smooth' yer thru customs/police control.i was travelling solo,so used them,25 euros, half an hour, sorted.
maroc...be prepared for change!...as said on other posters tales,it is grimy, and reeks of poverty, but dig a little deeper and engage them (you wont get the choice to be honest!!) most go out of their way to find out about you,in a friendly, non threatening way.yes, they (kiddies) will beg, cajole for euroes etc.smile be polite, then tell em to sod off! any help should be rewarded.a few bob goes a long way! did a round trip to casa, across,up thru hills (bloody freezing!) and back across to tangiers (i used a late evening crossing, lot quieter)........roads are of all sort of stuff, decent tarmac, rubble, small villages have rocks/mud/shit,everything!.country has b road class, but don't always expect them to exist after heavy rain!...go back? you bet,but further south, time permitting,AND a tad later in the year.i went in march cos i wanted my 1st visit to be 'naked',without meeting gs' every 2 minutes...i never saw a euro bike as such for 5 days, except at ports..no english plates/speakers,few germs/dutch/belgies...brill.....it's not until you get back that u realise JUST how the place gets under your skin.i stayed in cheap digs cos the weather was bitter, and i'm a fadge at heart!!

go,enjoy.keep the mind open,'euro free'.......
ps,do the pyrenees from barca,then onto millau,central massive on way home....freaking awesome!!!!

Hi all,

I'm quite set on going to Morocco sometime in 2010, for 2 – 3 weeks and I'd love some company. So far I've found one other Belgian on the HUBB who is also enthusiastic about going.

He's around 50 on an 1150, I'm around 30 and on a '07 Dakar, neither of us very experienced in the dirt. I'm happy spending 10hrs a day in the saddle and can do about 700Km / day on little tarmac roads, sans mishaps. A few days of camping under the stars and cheap accommodation sounds much better than 5 stars.

We're not really fussed when we go but I'm quite inpatient so would prefer early 2010.

Anyone interested, post here please!

Stef,

Yes I am interested, would like to be in group as I have not biked to these parts, I believe first time with group would suit me. I speak reasonable Arabic after years in Middle East. Lots of desert experiance but all 4X4!

maroc

mod, each to his own eh?....got off ferry, the only time it was warm,26deg,and no air to breath, only diesel.i think the price was a bloody bargain, and would do it again, under same circumstances.
rock...same thing,if i can afford a gs,and 2 weeks swanning,25 euros aint gonna kill me,and i just know it'll find it's way back into the maroc economy, making it more pleasurable for us all on our next visit!....ya pays yer money........arf

It does entirely the opposite - The touts then expect 25 euro off every european - hence why they hasselled you so much. The last twat who went through must given them a whole wedge of money - that's nearly a weeks wages for a morrocan . :D:D:D

trouble is you pay up and they expect the next guy to also pay up before you know its become the norm ,,,btw i went in august and it was a lot hotter than 26 what did it cost me sweet feck all ,,,25 euro's you really are a fud :tosser

tangier

rock,hi...had you been to maroc before?...solo?....just wondering.i spent tooo long sucking diesel from lorries with the lanes going nowhere fast.as said,it was my call, and i'd do it again in the same conditions.the 'economy' quip was tongue in cheek,if anyone who met the 'bandits' will know!...it's a call for the individual.

no it was my first trip abroad i was on a vfr and on my own,,,and when i return next year they will get the same feck all though i imagine they will be a bit more persistent now that they know there's a weeks wages at stake ,,excuse me if i don't thank you

.....25 euros aint gonna kill me,and i just know it'll find it's way into some CORRUPT BASTID'S POCKET, making it more FECKIN' MISERABLE for us all on our next visit!

It's corruption, pure and simple. For God's sake when will people stop paying these thieves

Andy,

Probably never, unfortunately.

This year on the way back, a guy was ready, handed out the papers (which are not really needed anyway), and then afterwards he requested money - me being a bit on the dim side (yes, yes) refused to give him anything, and the only thing he could do was to walk away empty handed.

I don't mind giving a couple of € if I ask for help, but the "I expect to get money" attitude pisses me off.

I am keen to join the list of Morocco 2010 riders if there is still room. Plymouth / Santander is a route I really like, great ferries! I have off road pretentions following my BMW World Adv in Wales so I'm up for looking a twat and keeping a sense of humour!! Got bike, 1150 GS trusty Yellow, full camping kit and some very cool shades so can go whenever.:D

Hi,i have planned this trip for last year but friends of mine canceled :blast so i'd like to go there in march-april 2010. I've my route plan done already and prefer camping and cheap hotels etc. also prefer 3 then 2 weeks b'cos of ferries... I've a brittany ferries voucher so plymouth-santander is the best for me... i dont mind a light off roads,me and my 1200 gsa love it... trying to get there my other czech friends from Dublin but they can go just for 2 weeks and that means 5-6 days in marroco and for me it is too short time for that kind of trip so i'd love to keep in touch with you and hope that we can manage a small group with a same or very similar plans for marroco trip.... :D

hi guys my pref would be plymouth-santander[usually pissing down in france] 28th mar,2 days thru spain.never been to maroc,so will go with the flo on this.return santander- portsmouth on 12 apr.home on 13th.looked at prices and if we share cabins, less than 300 each including bikes.let me know what you all think.

Thats pretty much my preference, I'd rather sail across the Bay than bike through France. Cabin sharing is ok but nothing behind watertight doors, toooo scary!! A four berth jobby on one of the higher decks would still be quite cheap. Maybe we should get down to details and start booking the crossing? :thumb2

I thought that ferry is crossing on Sun to Spain and Thurs to UK  but I'll check that to be sure..... :rob

If this is Stef's open invite I would like to know his plans as you seem to have taken control of this trip.

Karl

Cock! :blast Read the thread again from the start :rob Then, ask yourself this question before making a statement like that....

Where is Stef....?

No dates yet. No meeting point yet. No clear ideas yet....

I'm gonna be doing my own thing anyway.... Will possibly see some of you over there.
