I am going to Morocco in a couple of months time..My question is will i need a photo driving licence or will my old green licence be ok...Also is there any other paperwork i will need
Cheers Garry

Original green licence is fine, you'll also need your log book, MOT certificate and insurance (not photo copies).

It's also a good idea to have a photo copy of all these documents stashed with you somewhere just in case you should loose the originals.

Make sure you leave nothing on the bike that is nickable while going through the border, one guy I was with was unfortunate to have his GPS lifted while we were dealing with the 'officials' :(

Is the border crossing easy or time consuming. I am in southern spain in June and fancied a look into Morocco, but I'm unsure where to make the crossing or the hassle to get in. I read a thread on a loop people did which sounded interesting.

Border crossing can take anything from 2 to 5 hours - I have heard some real horror stories of delays.

Check your documents (Driving licence, Insurance, Registration document) all have exactly the same name and address. Mine varied from just initials, to "Nick", to "Nicholas". Spend time now getting them replaced or updated.

If they want to be awkward - they will.

Gerry,

Have a search through the travel section, this has come up a few times and Jon posted a good description of the process.

An International Driving Licence also impresses. Only a few quid, got mine from the AA. As with a lot of these countries, the more papers and stamps you have, the more impressive you look.

My reply here

Do a search on ""Morocco" & "Border" in the site and you'll see a good few threads. Also a good bit in Chris Scotts book Sahara Overland.

I went from Algeciras via Ceuta a couple of years back and it took about an hour and I was impressed that they wrote all the bikes details longhand in a big ledger despite our return being Tangier to Tarifa....

It seemed quicker for anyone in a Merc as they were sped though quickly.... may have been the banknotes in the passports. Being British I didn't fancy chancing it and spending time in a local nick....

another question for you morocco experts...I phoned my insurance company about cover for morocco and they said they would cover me but only third party..As this is of very little use to me and they wanted 40 quid is it worth getting some on the border instead ?
Thanks

I'ed go with your own insurance so if something does happen it will be easier to deal with. i.e. English speaking and UK based. The cost on the border will be about the same.

What insurance companies offer TP insurance for Morocco? As ebike on their web site don't appear to offer it.
