Morocco Open Invite end of October 2013

Morocco is on my 'list to do'.......

Seriously thinking about this but having not been before will need a help with the paperwork:blast

Please put me down as 90% definite......:thumb

No problem....we can help with the paperwork and any other guff...that's the point of the offer for a free guide as it were.

Nice thread on Adv. I notice a few did some of the off road loops. Will the 2013 format be the same? I do like a bit of off roading....

2013 will be about squeezing as much off roading in as possible along with wild camping here and there. Any one who can't be bothered with that at any time can bunny hop onto the next town by tarmac, meet up and continue riding.

Totally flexible as it's your experience.

:D

Am seriously looking into this, read the adv thread and watched the clips, looks like most of you had a great time. :D
The problem is I have a 1200 GSA and noticed that your crazy bunch were using smaller, lighter bikes, do you think this will be a problem? I don't fancy taking it on to deep soft dunes but have no worries on gravel roads.

Best Regards,

Count Pikey

Hi Count Pikey....

No problem with the GS....(as you've seen there was the likes of a Tiger 800, an ATwin and a KTM Adv there...Graham on the KTM had never ever ridden off road before at all)....the going is mostly hard pack with the odd soft stretch thrown in. Bearing that in mind we all wait and if anyone is getting it tight we all help....that's what it's all about. No stress and no hassle....

The most we got slowed down in was the normal stretch of feche-feche as we head to Ramlia ...we all helped each other (whilst I laughed and noted it all mentally to use in banter later on)

When I went to Merzouga I didn't take my XTZ into the soft sand at all as I couldn't be bothered lifting the moto up once I was going to fall !!!

A couple of the others give it a go here and there and were experimenting....and found they got stuck easily...but nothing too far into the dunes. The Erg Chebbi is surrounded by hard pack trails all over the place. so you can get to the dunes without having to really ride deep into them.

Anyway...all this to say by all means think about it. We have about 10 or 11 expressing an interest and with two from the UK as going. (The ferry docks in Santander on the 21st October....then we all RV at Manzanares like last year)

If you've never been before I can thoroughly recommend it. With the other goats having been there we'll help with any paperwork and keep you right with what's what.

If you need to know anything else just ask.

:D

I'm another 1200GSA who's very interested....just trying to figure out my calendar for the end of the year!

another interested (UK)

Hi CC
As the title says - another potential goat !!!
Can't find a pm for you.
I'm sure I saw your email somewhere - could you PM it to me as I have a few questions.
Cheers
Kev

Hi Keith

I like the sound of you trip. Like others I have very limited off road experience and I also ride a R1200GS. Am very Interested.

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy

No problem..that's what the trip is all about ...I and others can give advice on what's required here and there and to help as best as we all can.....we have no qualms in negotiating the best price with the locals so we don't get fleeced as 'tourists' etc etc lol

....when taking the trails there's lots of us there to help ....and then laugh at you either in English or French..works both ways lol

If you have a wee peep at the adv ride report you'll see all of us goats in action......erm......more like inaction.

One of the UK rider lives in Portsmouth and has offered a place to stay the night before the ferry sails,if it's required...

Anything else by all means just ask or ping me an email..

Just got back from work trip to Africa. Just want to say I'm still in. Any updates on plans ? PM me.

Hi Keith, look forward the trip and to going on the 1200GS, not the lightest bike for the trip, but looking at the video and discussing with Phil after the 2012 trip, could not miss it this time.
Look forward to the pre trip meet to discuss in more detail.
Great report in the AvRider.
Will in the Sunny and warm Pyrénées

Hi Will....(I see you've just joined as it were)

YIp...glad to have you along...there'll be plenty of folk to assist if things go goofy....It's not a race but an opportunity to experience Maroc..plus it'll be sunny(usually).

You'll learn fast as to what's what....

Looking forward to it already...

I'll keep you posted along with the others....

:D

Hi Keith,
Yes just joined the GS Forum and owner, and just joined the trip to Maroc in Oct, so a real "Newby"!!
Had a few trips out with Phil and getting used to it, rides better than the RT around the mountains of the Pyrénées !!
Looking forward to the trip in October.
Hope to meet up before then for a briefing.
Will

I fancy this trip but not the off road sections which i am getting a bit too old for.
I have been in touch with Keith and asked his permission to ask if anyone is in the same frame of mind as i am.
ie would like to do the trip but stay on the road all the time.
if so maybe you can contact me or post on this thread

regards
