Hi Chaps & Chapesses

Just back from a ramble round Morocco. Fabulous place :clap I kept a blog for friends & family but thought you guys might be interested in it. All the help and comments from everybody else on this forum helped me plan my trip so here is my 2c worth.

Sorry, it is a bit too much hassle to tranfer all the content to this site so you will have to look at on Blogger. Bear in mind that the content is listed in reverse order...i.e. newest at the top.

Check it out at http://ridemorocco.blogspot.com/

Thanks

You did well on a first trip and well done for going solo. As you realised, you tend to meet more people and see more interesting things than when you're in a group.

You should have waited until after Eid to buy your fleece when the going rate is 20dh (roughly cleaned).

Nice one. :thumb2Looks like you got the bug:clap

Layaounne is the pits as far as I'm concenred. Better to carry on to Boujdour.

Ring a bell?

Guys
Seems like most people pick up shots of 'the sights'. Have to say that coming over the hill and seeing that US gas station was a real double take moment. I knew it existed but was still puzzled when I came across it.:eek

On the sheepskin front...I definitely got ripped off but then again I knew I was being so that made it slightly easier to take.....bonkers logic I know:blast. Having seen all the sheep being skinned on Eid, I am not sure I wanted a 'fresh' one. They were like litter around the place.

I've passed by as well :D

Are the vehicles still there ?

Great report Reddude. I went down on the 13th but took the Med route Burgos was a no go.
Came back Marbella to Boreaux on the 3rd of Jan and got a clean run wet roads in most of Spain but no snow. Last weekend Madrid airport was closed with snow.
The weather is a real lottery, the best decicion you made was to back track when you saw the weather closing in, I always push on (stupid)

Go for it!

If you are thinking of a trip, I cant recommend Morocco enough. I did a trip through Chile & Argentina ( check the ride report at rideargentina.blogspot.com) and it doesn't have the punch of Morocco. Still a great trip, but the place is still sort of 1st world. Morocco is the beginning of 2nd world and a real culture clash. And it is a lot more accessible than South America.

What a load of bull :-D

Thanks for the info on the bulls.....and I thought there were some sort of nationalistic/artistic statement. Amazing how 'right' these advertising blokes can be sometimes.

I think they are beautiful......seeing them unexpectedly from a distance...just beautiful. Its a terrible thing that the Spanish use the bull as a symbol of pride yet torture and torment this noble, proud majestic beast in the name of entertainment.:nenau

Cold

It was cold on the way back.....I had good weather most of the time there...just the odd spell of nasty brass monkey.

I bumped into two other blokes on the ferry on the way back who had 19 out of 23 days crap weather ...and they started 1 week behind me. One (aged 72) was on an FJR1300 told me of his struggle to get the bike over a pass in the snow......no mean feat.

I came back with a burning desire to go back, they said no thanks....been there done that....somewhere warmer next time.

I might take a look again in April/May.
