Have any of you tossers that have been to Maroc, taken a pillion? Obviously not much problem on the decent roads I wouldn't think, but not too good on the rough stoney pistes? One of my pals that is coming with us in April is bringing his girlfriend and I wondered if it would, in your opinion, affect progress much.

He's a good rider, and she's only little!

he will be ok if bikes break down you can sell her for two camals:hapybnce:

I'd be more worried for the poor pillion rider. I couldn't envisage tackling pistes I've never seen in advance with a pillion on the back and I can't help but think it will slow you down.

Four of us are going in May as solo riders. We're currently assuming a maximum speed on pistes of around 20 mph with an average speed of 10-12 mph.

Ultimately it depends upon exactly which pistes you are thinking of and what the weather is like. Sometimes you can plot a piste route that has an asphalt alternate.

What pistes did you have in mind?

the unknown

Thanks for that Zmeagol... Trouble is, we do really want to do 'unplanned' pistes. Some of us went on a full offroad tour in 2000, and we now want to explore some of the detours that we spotted then. We did a lot of dunes and fesh fesh in 2000, but don't intend to try and do much of that on GS's.

Take the road from Erfoud to Merzouga for example. It's about 15 miles of stoney desert which was no problem one-up on dirt bike, but I suspect would be a bit rattly on a fully laden GS. I'm just concerned that it would be hell two-up.

We're aiming to go for about 3 weeks from mid April.. we may cross paths? Have you worked out an itinerary yet?

Will

It is VERY difficult two up if you want to keep up any speed at all.
When the bike is knocked out of shape by a rock, rut or soft patch it is easy to power out of it solo, more likely an off two up.
It is possible, just a question of speed. For sure the solo riders will become very frustrated waiting and there will be lots of pressure on the two up rider to ride faster than he should. You know it isn't a good idea!

I reckon you will need to go a lot faster than that or the corrugations will shake you to bits.

Why not suggest that he tries some off road rides "two -up" in this country first? Lets face it, it would be too late to do anything about it when you're in Morocco. My initial feeling is that it is a recipe for a ruined holiday.

She's binned

Right that's it... Can't have them holding up our desert storm progress... He'll have to dump her now.

If he really needs 'comfort' while we're out there, I'm sure we can find him a lonely camel!
