For me, working in an office full of people and having a family (which i love) the idea of a day or two on my own covering very large distances is a welcome relief by way of contrast. I kinda like the idea of looking at a map and not knowing whether what i'd like to achieve is possible; i love lazy days with a mate blatting through great scenery, but to me there is a romance about long days in solitude with just service stations, marlboros and strong coffee as your companion...

Four of us are going May--250 mile ride to Plymouth, overnight fast ferry to Santander, 350 mile ride through Picos de Europa to Madrid, then overnight motorail, arriving Algeciras (next to Gib) 9:30am day 3.

So two fairly relaxing days each way. Like Willstatt, our emphasis is on maximising the time in Morocco (and arriving fresh so we can tackle some pretty long pistes).

Alternatively Andrew Crowther ([email protected]) quoted £1100 for as many bikes/luggage as will fit into a Sprinter van (probably 3 x GS) for UK to Malaga.
