A short question for those of you familiar with the territory. I am looking to take a short jaunt down to Morocco with the family (so unfortunately the bike must stay at home).

In this regard I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with various companies that run family orientated trips in the country and if there are any in particular that you could recommend. A quick search using a famous search engine has come up with groups such as http://www.adventurecompany.co.uk/

In the past I would have just headed out, rented a car and traveled by karma but with a 2yo in tow life has its constraints.

We are not the hang around the beach types and off the beaten track (within 2yo limits) should not be ruled out. We would like to get a flavour of the place.

Recommendations and thoughts appreciated.

Allan

No personal experience of taking a kid. Keep well away from strong sun, plenty of clear fluids and an air conned car and I would think you'd be fine.

The Moroccans will fawn over a kid - especially if blonde.

I'd be on for it if 'twere me

Do a bit of research in the Morocco database on here and in the rough guide/lonely planet to find places you'd like to visit.
Fly to Marrakesh and hire a 4x4 and off you go:thumb
So long as you stick to road and the main piste you'll be 100% fine on your own with a toddler. Explore the more remote areas once you have a feel for the place. In general Morocco is a very friendly place and in all but the smallest of towns accommodation is easy enough to find and most if not all will be child friendly.

Which ever way you chose it is a great country to visit:thumb2

Yep it wiil be fine, all the moraccans were kids once, there is a shortage of boots and mothercare, but if you are flexable then why not.:thumb2

Thanks all for the information. Reading the trip reports and the guidebooks it sounds like a lot of fun to be had. Long flights with the little one are becoming a little challenging and frankly Malaga does nothing for me.

I lived in Indonesia as a child and having fair hair I remember the attention I received. The little one will be fussed over endlessly by the sounds of things.

Thanks again.

After reading this post I got my act into gear and we have now booked up a great family holiday trip....

I'm leaving in the UK in the car early on Tuesday 25th May - fast boat to Cherbourg, couple of days in the Charente in Western France then drive to Barcelona on Thursday night. Meet up with good lady wife and 9 year son at Barcelona airport Friday morning ( they will fly in from Manchester ). Stash the car at the BCN airport and then two nights revisiting our fav places in BCN.

Fly out on Vuelling Airlines ( cheap ) to Marrakech on Sunday morning. Pick up a rental car. Head for Ouazazate for Sunday eve then do Zagora, Merzouga, Todra and back up to Marrakech for 2 nights. Back into BCN on Sat 5th June.

Pick up our car and drive up 3 hours to Carcassonne for Sat Night, then back to the Charente for a week then return home Sat June 12th!

Pity no XChallenge involvement but sounds like a trip to me!

Moroccan itinerary ideas
... Best Of Morocco remains the leading specialist to the country [Morocco]. Conde Nast Traveller Where to go?
If you have not travelled to Morocco (often mis-spelt as Moroco or Morrocco), look at our About Morocco and Holiday Destinations sections to learn more about this colourful country, the contrast of the Sahara desert with fertile valleys, the snow capped Atlas mountains and the Atlantic coast.

See the Featured Holidays for some example itineraries on which to base your holiday; you are welcome to book a single hotel if you prefer a more relaxed break.

We also offer a range of activities for particular interests such as golf and cooking, as well as walking, landrover and camel treks that will take you deeper into the wonderful countryside and villages of Morocco. All these can be found in the Specialist Holidays section.

Our Holiday Extras section includes the services needed to glue your holiday together - flight times, Car Hire, perhaps with a driver, and excursions that can give you a feel of the country while having a fixed base.

Your accommodation in Morocco
All the accommodation featured is selected and visited by our staff, who will advise and help you to create your perfect itinerary.

We only book accommodation at time of sale so you do not pay for unused allocation, and we offer an excellent and varied selection.

To find a hotel or riad in Morocco that has been recommended to you, follow our Hotels And Riads link (which also explains the design of a ryad).

All our accommodation pages give a price for a holiday at that hotel (including flights and transfers). While it is harder to give an exact price for holidays with a more varied itinerary our online quotation will give you a guideline price so that you can compare hotels and pass your preferences onto us for advice and an accurate price.

If you have a particular budget, our hotels by price page compares the cost of a holiday at a selection of hotels, and can be used as an indicator of the hotels to select for a multi-centre holiday.

When you find a hotel that you may like to stay at, use the 'add to shortlist' button near the hotel picture to add it to your list of preferred hotels. This list is at the top left of your screen, and can be viewed on the Online Quotation page. You can select hotels from this list to get a guideline cost for your holiday.

This site has many photographs to give you a feel of Morocco and of the accommodation we offer - don't miss the 'more pictures' button located by the main picture of each page. You may also like to request a copy of our colourful brochure displaying a selection of the accommodation we offer.

Holiday Booking
We advise that you discuss your itinerary with us first before booking flights to ensure that your flight choice does not compromise your itinerary.

Please do telephone us on 08450 264 588 to discuss your proposed holiday, we can also work via email although it can be slower and harder to get a feel for your preferred holiday.

We do not have online booking as we prefer to be sure we are providing you with an itinerary that is achievable, and because we book accommodation only when you request it, with many of the riads owners preferring to keep manual control over their bookings. To book your holiday please telephone or email, and we will then check the availability of the accommodation and flights that make your holiday. (How To Book has more details about our booking procedure.)

Thanks Robbo, this looks like just the thing I have been looking for. I will drop them a note and see what they can do for us. By the time you do the math on hire car and hotels, some of these tour companies come in at very reasonable prices.
