Morrocan dash Easter '09?

what is the general situation at the end of the day with accommodation?

Is everyone expected to fend for themselves or are the hotels able to house such a group that just turns up?

Luxury all the way :augie

That would be the IBIS in Fez then - one of the few places you can rely on to have heating - that works - when you want it!!!

Your ordinary boots will do the job as I`m guessing there will be no off roading. Just wear the gear you normally ride in here:thumb

Just for info, we had the full range of weather in 2007. Sunny and warm through France, feckin freezing and wet through Northern Spain, we had heavy rain followed by hot sun in Morocco and also remember it still gets cold at night and at altitude. On the way back we had a mixture of warm sun, freezing fog and cold overcast.

Don`t worry, don`t panic and enjoy the trip. :thumb

Hi All

Thanks Sgt Bilco :bow for the reply.

I do like them Wapping :ymca but will clash with the BMW Grey & my jacket! :augie
But would look great on the Fazer :D :ymca2

Still not sure if I'm going buy think it'll be a few days or a week earlier as I don't fancy coughing up to the Spanish police again. As for tyres I'll be using Heidenau K60's as per the first time I went and I'll try to do as many fire roads and offroad passes as I can get to. Doing 1600 road miles then doing more road miles upon entry is kinda boring and not using the GS for its intended purpose. Get the map out and explore. :thumb2

You've missed the wholepoint, as have those that are meeting in spain.
This trip is called a dash, not a cultural voyage into the inner morocco. The dash part is the getting to morocco in as short a time as possible to show that it's not so far away as to be intimidated by getting there.

And it appeals to those that also like covering the miles on a GS, and not just pottering about in the dust, which a trails bike would be much better suited than GS anyway.

This "dash" type of use is very well suited to the GS, crossing countries and continents in comfort loaded up, and then using a combination of main and small roads once in morocco.
We only have 5 days, and point is to show whats available and the timescale/distances involved to people who may never have been before, so they can then plan a trip without all "what if's" or the "i wonder how long it'll take to get from A to B" etc etc .

Some of the boring road miles from the last "Dash". Not hardcore, but enjoyable, and that's the intention. And to dismiss the absolutely amazing roads in morocco as boring is a bit shortsighted.

Oh and we do enjoy ourselves when we stop for the night with good food and drinks a'plenty, some of the stop overs have been legendary :augie.

Now you have gone and done it .. upset the old fella :D

Hi guys.

Steptoe has it right. It's what old motorcyclists and car drivers used to call a 'Raid' in the bomber sense of the word. Go out, bugger around and hopefully come back.

I have been on two of the Moroccan dashes and on the Turkey Trot. In short, they are go as far as you can in a circle (home-to-home) in five days and not worry about too much.

Did we see anything? No and yes.

France and Spain? No but we weren't going there.

Morocco? Plenty.

Deep desert? No.

Some half decent roads to crack on and have a few laughs? Yes.

Get a feeling about what else might lurk around a corner, or fifty miles away and be worth a look another day? Yes.

Did we have any sproblems? No, not really. One chap fell off his bike and lost a pannier. That could happen in Slough, Aberdeen or Naples.

Did we help him tie it back on? Yes.

Did we laugh at the dead bird stuck in his bike? Yes.

Did we call him a Tosser? Yes.

Was he a true Tosser? Definitely :thumb2

Did we feck off and leave him at a hotel that was full in Fes? Yes.

Did we all giggle forever at the plaintive, "Don't leave me......."

Did we do it on purpose? Probably not.

Would we have have gone to find him in Fes, by the time he had called us from looking for whatever hotel we had not yet found? Yes. Why? Good question.....Probably because we could, and he would buy us a beer, and we had already nicked all the best beds......

Did we have many laughs at: Hookers, overloaded taxies, Moroccan gin and tonics, helmets with chronic feedback over the Autocom, rock sellers, bizarre directions, booking a B&B over the phone in a mixture of French, English and a bit of "Imshalah", angry bikes, mobile farms, unintelligible Northern speak, skin oils and potions, full on meals in old cities, being stood in a car park for two hours whilst small boys ran around finding a hotel for us, a bloke camping outside in a force 9 gale while we slept inside, the world's most expensive meal, the world's cheapest and friendliest hotel.......

Spot on Wapping old boy:thumb

Here`s a few more images of those dull Moroccan Roads. Well worth every minute of the haul through France and Spain:D

Sorry if I sounded defeatist. Probably the "intense" experience would be better with a larger group anyway (too tired to argue over the little things :thumb ).

Roads on the first set of Steptoes pictures look ace. To blow part of the house deposit or not. Oh fu*k. :blast

I didnt actually fall off , just got sort of shunted sideways by the taxi , all who were there picked up the assorted bits of plastic off the road and regrouped later to cable tie, bungee rubber and gaffa tape it all back together .
big thanks , they know who they were !

Crikey... there was another one.

I wasn't thinking of you, I'm afraid. I mind was drifting back to the artiste formerly known as, Novice and his arguement with a truck. A David and Goliath moment, with Goliath winning.

I could also mention Bill's engagement with some very large flower pots (they came off worse) and Special Uncle Alan's 'angry bike' contretemp with some poor local on a moped :augie

I think the poor chap has suffered enough ... there is no need to drag out the past over and over again. I am sure he is a great fella and a diamond geezer.
