Morocco

Hi - I can see that the Morocco team has a load of previous experience so you're probably already aware of this option:-

When trying to figure out an efficient way of getting there last New Year, my emphasis was on spending as much of my hard earned leave as possible in Morocco, rather than getting there.

After looking at all the permetations of ferries etc, I opted for a Dover-Calais ferry, then liked together the French Autorail (Paris to Narbonne) and the Spanish one (Barcelona to Malaga). This was easy (well, it should have been, had the French rail strike not meant that we ended up terminating at Toulouse and crossing the Pyrennes in mid winter...) and it meant we arrived at Morocco pretty fresh and ready to go.

I just mention it because it's another option to think about, it's much cheaper in Winter and it worked really well for me.

When Wreford Miles and I did this trip in October 2002, we left north London after work on Friday evening and were in north Africa on Sunday evening.

Short of an air-lift, the quickest way to get to Morocco is via Calais - then just get your head down and cover the miles to Algeciras!

The mate I was travelling with was on a fairly well-laden XT350 - if we had tried that approach I reckon we'd still be somewhere near Paris!! ;-)

Enjoy the trip - how I wish I was coming along......!!!

getting to morocco

i did the return trip from morocco in two and a half days last time i went, never again! i still got a sore arse and ringing in my ears!!
plus i think it can cost more because of all the peage (tolls)
the trip i am planning will be more leisurely with time for photos and meeting people! spain is lovely to ride through.
it will be easy for people to go from either portsmouth or plymouth as the ferries arrive within a few hours of each other.
incidentally if anyone is interested in looking at the pictures we all took last time i went then go to motorchallenge dot com/mike scotts sahara pics.
