MOT for pre 1960 bikes

Just taxed on line my 1950 Royal Enfield 350 Model G this morning without a MOT,the bike having been previously SORN`d .

Thought I might have a problem in that the new regulation for exempting MOT testing pre 1st Jan 1960 maunufactured bikes only came into force on the 18th November 2012 .

Seems the DLVA have got it right straight off .

Was the road tax still free?
I heard that it has or soon will be stopping the free RFL for pre 1972 vehicles.
