Hi folks,
Happy Easter.

I have just moved to Ireland from UK ( this recession suited me better) and I brought my mechanical menagerie with me. Cars are all now registered and legally on road in Ireland.

But what about my bikes? they are registered here now , but do I need to get them tested ? What is the process?.

Any suggestions for a rider type classic policy in Ireland for a 42 year old: the bikes are '04 R100gs,1978 Triumph 750, 1971 BSA 650.

The last two spend years off road /unused, do I have to do any forms to satisfy the authorities that I am not riding them?

Any tips gratefully received.

It depends on where in Ireland you are. If you are in NI then the same rules as the UK apply.

In the Republic there is no MOT/NCT for bikes at all. As for insurance, bend over, grip your ankles tightly and brace yourself.:eek: A read through this section should help you out re insurance.

I take it by your location you are in County Galway.:thumb2

The best thing to do is a search for insurance in the Ireland section. There are only a few companies that insure bikes, so it wont take you long to ring around and get quotes. There is no MOT/NCT for bikes at present. You do not need to register a bike SORN'd either.

So take yer time and check around the companies. Come back on here and post your findings in the Ireland section and see what the boys can advise:thumb2

Goodluck.

welcome to our recession no test required carole nash or adlede iprobly spelt it wrong JJH

thunderbolt, there aren't any companies doing a riders policy and few doing multibike. My 3 bikes are insured with Carole Nash tel: 1 800 298 550 - about €450 full comp and based on the value of the '03 1150GS with 5+ years no claims 59yo, Aon might, Quinn Insurance don't, Adelaide are new to the market and I don't know what they offer.
Some might take your UK no claims into account, others not.
Let's know how you get on.

There is no NCT test on bikes, as yet.
No SORN required, but you'll have to get a declaration of non-use on the motor tax form signed at your local Garda station when you next tax them for use on the road.
