After a text chat with a mate earlier, I thought I'd just ask you folks on here as well about this...

I've got Barkbuster handguards on the GS, and they stop the bars going from lock to lock,as they foul the screen, only by about 10 - 15 mm, but they still don't allow the bars to go all the way over.

It doesn't affect the riding in any way, even when I did a slow control course with Craig Jones, it wasn't an issue, but I'm not sure how strict an MOT tester would be - goes in for its first ever test tomorro.

I've taken the screen off for the test - nothing to foul the bars, and it will go from lock to lock without an issue.

Will the tester look at my bike without the screen and realise why I've taken it off, will it matter? I can ride the bike in perfect safety without the screen, so it doesn't need one, but as he must know that I'll be putting it back on as soon as I get home, will he take a dim view?

A tester can only test what is in front of him/her , not what he/she thinks you are going to do. You don't need a screen for an mot either.

If you take it for test it might fail because of the above issue, It all depends on the tester and his mood......Tosh

I had an MOT done in Dec with no screen,no issues with it.Passed flying colours.

Just remove the hand-guards if you are worried.

I had the same issue & worry due to a givi-high-screen on my F8. I swapped the screen over to the original one, though I'd of fully removed the screen if I had known it wasn't/isn't an mot fail issue of not having one fitted.

My Barkbusters also fouled the screen but I found if you loosen the handlebar clamp and rotate the bars back towards you they will just clear. The tester should fail it if he cant move the bars lock to lock, removing the screen is not an mot failure.

Not related to the first query on this thread, but what constitutes excessive play on floating discs?
I've had a good browse through the many "brake" related threads and knocking from the front rotors on the F8GS is common.
But what is a normal amount of movement and what is an abnormal amount of movement?
Can you guess that the machines MOT (it's first) is due :D

Answers on a fag packet accepted, as well as on others materials of various sizes :thumb2
