Booked my GS1150 into SLM for its first MOT and took opportunity to test-ride a 1200.

WARNING-----They cant do an MOT now unless you bring your LOGBOOK.

I bet Im not the first that has been caught out. At least I had the pleasure of the 1200 for the day, but it would have been a wasted journey on what must have been the coldest day of the year with snow whisping on the M25 most of the day- but not quite getting to the showers stage. Stiil, the effort was worth it as the 1200 will be purchased at end of March. Only got offerd £3100 for my 50k 3-year old 1150- because I use it!

not quite, they only need the logbook if they find your bikes details are not correct on the online database.

or it could be SLM being twats.

Well considering I brought the bike from them and they have the service record...They were insistant that I had to go away. I think in fairness its because they DONT actually DO the MOT- they sub it out.

Sell it privately, you'll get a lot more for it than that.

Cetainly not true in my experience.

I took my 1150 for it's 1st MOT last month & didn't need any paperwork.

Having said that, the tester warned me that the DVLA would be in touch with me as the frame number on my bike didn't corrspond with the DVLA 'on-line' record....
Sure enough they did; firstly a form asking me to note my frame number down & send back, then a letter asking for my V5 to be sent in to correct the error.

My tester reckons they were a lot of cases the same as mine; the importing dealer not noting down the correct frame numbers :nono

Good to see though that the 'system' is tightening up on those who choose to ignore the law. :thumb

You do not need the v5 for mot on computerisation even if your details are not on computer (makes it easier) but not required
i should know it's my job :D

Tis true ... a log book is not required ... but ... as our mot computer is on the top floor ... and the mot bay is in the basement ... we have been telling people to bring the log book in as it will save time ... and legs ... and mistakes...

At least they offered you something for it. A few years back I went to the Honda dealer in Perth to see about changing my CBR600. At that time it was 5 years old with 50-odd thousand miles and full dealer service history but they wouldn't take it as a trade-in! Ended up keeping it and it's now done 90,000.
