Moto Piston Rally Picos October 2011

i think it will only affect anyone planning to enter the event.

if you want to do the Route of 5000 curves, i gues it will be 80 miles to santander, 280 odd for the route, and then 80 miles home again.

can't see me doing that on the le mans TBH. on the other hand, i'm not keen to stay in santander either.

anyone going in the la pisa group will get an email asking for their views on the matter.

BarryG and myself are further away again which is a shitter. Though I suppose having the M/Cs in my van will help with the 75 mile each way trip. I think I will still try to cancel Hotel de Oso and get closer to santander though. I am away now for 10 days so I will see what the collective have decided to do when I get back.

F*cking typical but I'm not overly bothered and will go with the Majority. I'm not into riding loads of miles everyday so I will probably go to the rally on one or two days, have a couple exploring the Picos and I also want to walk the cares gorge.

we've had a discussion and vote amongst our group, and it's pretty clear that most want to stay with the original accommodation at La Pisa, so that's what we're going to do.

i'm sure it'll all work out ok, and that the moto piston club will realise the error of their ways when they hear of our decision. i await their apology :)

Me and her indoors have discussed it and i have to say we are stopping with our origional plans, as already mentioned were not just there for the rally but to sample some good food, drink and the company.
Will pop back to Santander for one or two days to soak up the atmosphere but shant let the changes spoil our trip:thumb2

Bollocks. If I get an entry for the rally, I'll have to stay in Santander, it's too far out otherwise.

Bummer.

The move to Santander may have an adverse effect for me...I'd like to stay with a group, but riding so far to the 'events' every day may get a bit tedious.

Apart from that, I don't recall Santander being the most picturesque of places :nenau

Hmmm...

Mark,
I don't intend to ride to the "events" every day, I intend to ride every day and arrive at Santander near the end of a day's riding if the ride and circumstances allow, I intend to ride the route of 5000 curves not sure which day yet, I may do it the same day as those entered and get some pics along the way or I may do it another day when the roads are quieter, I haven't decided yet, on the other days it would be nice to spectate at the El sardiniero race which leaves Sunday as a free day to do as we please whether that be to take in the atmosphere of the Rally in Santander or to wander out into the Cantabrian hills for the day where we might well happen upon the competitors again, I have no plan other than to make it up as I go along ;)

A cut n' paste from the Moto Piston website itinerary;

Departure between 9:30 hrs and 10:30 hrs for gentle riders. Lunch in ride.

Saturday October 8th:

Departure between 9:00 hrs and 10:00 hrs. We will relive the I National Motorbike Race in Santander 1918, following de same route with a halt at the Reinosa reservoir. We then return to the Sardinero, to de Sport Centre to enjoy our famous Paella.

From 15:00 hrs the II Motorbike Race will we held in the "El Sardinero"

Dinner at the Hotel Santemar accompanied by wide screen displays of the race and rally, followed by a 70's style disco.

Sunday October 9th:

Route through the Pasiega villages, we will ride through the most beautiful valleys in Cantabria, returning to the Sardinero to ead a "Cocido Montañes" (a meat, chorizo and bean stew). Then you may visit the Autojumble or go for a swim at the Sardinero.

You're right about Santander, from what I've seen in the past I wouldn't want to base myself there for the duration of the Rally :D
