Has anyone here fitted a Motobatt MBYZ16HD battery as a replacement for the OEM Exide battery on a r1250gs?
My measurements of the external dimensions of the OEM battery seem to be about 3mm smaller than those quoted for the Motobatt battery. Without buying one to see if it will fit I thought I’d ask if anyone has fitted one.

Put on in my 2017 1200GS no problems. Is standard battery on 1250 different?
Tayna batteries best price I could find at time of purchase.

Thank you for that reply. Looking onto the Tayna website reveals that all the batteries specified therein are quoting the same dimensions as the Motobatt battery. None quote the sizes I measured. I conclude therefore, that my measurements are not accurate and a Motobatt will fit.

I put one on my Hexhead before this years France trip for peace of mind, then swapped it out before P/X shortly after, good to know it fits the 1250 as it has better capacity. I might get around to fitting it to the new bike this weekend ready for winter.

Even Better, let us know how you get on. Some one with actual experience of the task in mind is a good as it gets.

Have you considered a Yuasa instead? I fitted a Yuasa YTX14H-BS to my 2019 R1250GS to replace the standard battery, same size, but being the heavy duty version of the Yuasa (standard battery equivalent is the YTX14-BS), has 240CCA so more cranking power, meaning it spins a bit quicker on start-up and starts a bit easier when cold. Not a bad price from Halfords either

Will do Alan...... If I take my phone with me I can take a comparison photo of batteries and upload it via Tapatalk.

I think it might be a bit of a squeeze compared to a Hexhead as the battery slides in sideways and the maximum height possible is fixed based on the plastic battery housing. My new bike is a 2019 1250 GSA so the OE battery is 3 years old already, I will fully charge it and keep it as a spare.

(I must remember to disable my tracker before I start to save a call from the tracker monitoring people.)

As said do not worry about who makes the battery or about capacity, just buy the one with the biggest CCA that you can. The capacity has absolutely no relevance as the battery only does one thing, starts the bike.

Bought two Motobatt batteries for my Hexhead, should have learnt a lesson after the first. Both failed within a year, total crap imho. Changed back to Exide, no problems.

I still have the Motobatt batteries in their boxes ( don’t know why I kept them),free to anyone who wants them.

Use Exide in my 1150 again no problems.

Im 100% the opposite, after buying an overpriced Oddysey battery years ago to replace a failed exide AGM battery on my Hexhead, I have since bought Motobatt for about four bikes including my Tmax, KTM450EXC, R1 4XV and another Hexhead and all have been excellent.

I’d buy yet another Motobatt from Tanya batteries in a heartbeat.

I bought one in March this year and fitted it to my 2018 1200gsa with no issues at all. Previously had motobatt in several bikes before. Never had an issue with any of them.

Put a Yuasa YTX14 on mine a couple of weeks ago, slightly taller than the OEM Yuasa but fitted perfectly with the polystyrene block removed from underneath it

For info, BS just means Bottle Supplied, where you fill the acid yourself using the 6 cell acid pack that comes with an empty battery
I believe these are getting less popular as the possession of acid is a sensitive subject

Mine came factory conditioned and already charged with a manufacturing date on it :thumb2

Fitted this to my R1200 GS LC…. MBTX12U MOTOBATT Quadflex AGM Bike Battery 12V 14A……..no issues whatsoever……

The original Odyssey battery will, contrary to popular belief ;) fit the LC models

If i recall 2013 - 2016, was a straight fit , and 2017 on requires the battery tray to be removed / modded

+1. Had 1 for my VFR and one for my KTM, both failed in less than 18 months. Not falling for all the hype again.

Apologies to the OP I didn't get time to swap the battery over last weekend. When I do I will post a few pics (assuming it fits).

Here you go: Bigger capacity Motobatt is the same size as the OE Exide battery and fits perfectly.
