Initial impressions on above while collecting info and spares for the 'shed'

On the two occasions I have called Motobins, Steve could not have been more helpful. He gave me loads of advice as well as a list of bits to carry as spares for africa trip and even suggested places to get them from supplying phone numbers where poss.

So I called Sherlocks re seats. Complete opposite sounding miserable, uninterested ang generally pissed off.
The whole phone conversation was uphill all the way untill I gave up, appologised for calling and put the phone down.

Is this typical of both dealers? I hope not but from my experience Motobins are the first call when chasing more parts.

when i had a K75s the previous owner had replaced the rear shock with one from Motobins.
within a short time of my ownership it leaked badly - resulting in a two wheeled pogo stick and a slightly ineffecient rear brake!

in true beemer owner fashion the prev. owner had given me all receipts etc. for bits he had bought.
i contacted Motobins / they said return the shock - they'd had a "batch of bad uns".
within two weeks i got a replacement in the post.

all i had to pay was the postage.
now thats Good Service!

still chasing bits

Thought I'd check here to read a bin full of posts in defence of Sherlocks but 'nada'.
Looks like the spending order is MBins, MWorks,Sherlocks.

I really believe the web ito be a good place to share good as well as bad feed back and therefore put more money in the pockets of the genuine and less in the rest

I recently said in another thread that I rated Motobins highly. I have used then for several years now to get parts for my previous airhead Beemers, and they have, without exception, been great. Very friendly, very useful, and very good service. And they have delivered all this consistently. I would definately recommend them.
Now then, I a sure someone is gonna prove me horribly wrong now :D

and to level the playing field!

for 10 or so years i've used variously; Motobins, Motorworks, SPC, SLM, Prestige and in the dim and distant, Brackens.

And to a greater or lesser extent, I've actually found them all to be generally pretty good - the only real determining factor as to who I buy my spares from is who's cheapest on the day, and who's got stock. (And of course if it's used spares or pattern-parts you want - a main dealer is no good to you!).

I have been the recipient of very poor service once or twice in the past, but never by any of these guys.

It wouldn't be fair to mention the names of the 'bad boys' - as I vote with my wallet and haven't used the offending outlets for many years - and it's possible that they may have changed in that time...

I can't believe i'm the first one to praise Sherlocks and pooh-pooh motobins.

Sherlocks always supplied me parts in good condition used or next day or whatever i wanted, whereas i've had to send stuff back to motobins as 'DIRE' and only suitable for a skip.

Bet neither of 'em will send over here though so i'm looking around.

You should try Motorworks. According to Simon McCarthy they delivered spares to him in Kazakhstan (or some such place).

I can't fault Sherlocks. Their prices are competitive & when I ask for advice, it's always been given freely even though they're busy.

My gearbox failed in Germany last year, the local BMW dealer could not get the parts quickly, so I arranged for Sherlocks to ship a gearbox direct to the dealer whilst I continued with my travels on a hired bike. Ordered the gearbox at 5pm Tuesday & it arrived at the dealers in Germany first thing Friday.

sherlock v motorworks

i`ve had good new parts from both of the above, however i`ve also been sent some way overdiscribed overpriced secondhand crap from both inc. K100RS WRECKED BELLYPAN @ £120 MOTORWORKS. and K100RS VERY RUSTY STAND ASSEMBLY @ £60 SHERLOCKS. so beware with the s/hand stuff. If the bike is nice forget the s/hand and buy new. nick marshall
