motogadget m unit

Never seen it before, looks interesting though, I would be interested to read any resident experts thoughts.

it's the way i'd go if i was doing a custom, but it's not cheap, and you'd probably want the minimalist motogadget handlebar buttons too - more expense.

as a side note - beware the motogadget analogue tacho. looks great, but the digital speedo is about 5mm high and no one my age could read it :D

Yep not cheap but it looks very simple , I will price a new loom too I bet its not far off that price and the exchange rate is quite good at the mo.
I would like the speedo but not at that price , well not just yet as we all know motorcycles can be fucking money pits

M Unit

The 'M' Unit and the associated bits are usually cheaper and quicker from Ebay, the Speedo is much
easier solved from Speedhut in the States for half the price.

The 'M' Unit is a good piece of kit though and does all sorts of things when you delve into it!

i am using an M unit on my Ducati 900SS and have one to fit shortly to my R100R and rate them highly. and yes they are pretty simple to put together, but the costs do creep up once you start buying switchgear, wires, connectors and tools. but i found the whole process very satisfying and simple, even for me who had been too scared to touch electrics before!

thanks buddy I am going too fit it as a winter project now as i have my old loom working I hope just the lights too fit and I should be ready for an mot .
It will clear out a lot of wires thats for sure

It doesn't do the charging circuit, as far as I can tell,

I was thinking of fitting one to my Le Mans project, it's points ignition, so that should be a little easier,

How about some pictures Chris?

It's not the charging. If unit ,Ian it's all the relays and more if you have a quick peek at the munit web site you will see what I mean,my loom was a hacked up birds nest that was driving me nuts hence why I was looking for an alternative. There is a great thread on adventure rider about the munit and all the smart things it does .
I don't have one yet but it's on the cards for winter

You are correct, it doesn't do the charging circuit, but that's easily solved with a Gammatronix LED and a direct connection to the rotor, you will at least then know if it's charging which you don't with the standard set up!

what I meant is that you have to install a charging loom and a supplementary loom to work things like ignition trigger circuit or additional gauges,

my lemon project is likely to have analogue tach and digital speedo unit, something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-S...57?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3ce224732d

though there are others, possibly with voltage indication as well, or with the Gammatronix LED which I have used before, on a couple of occasions

the last lemans I wired cost me £200 in wire and connectors and relays etc, plus a full day to wire, it used modern switchgear so had to be custom made, though I still have loads of the connectors plugs and wire left,

the M unit should make that quicker and with less than half the wire!

I fitted an Electrex World rr45 regulator/rectifiier when rewiring an R65 café racer, did away with the diode board. Hurrah! Should work a treat with the motogadget.
