I recently decided that HID upgrades were in order, and went out looking.

I contacted Mick at Motorbike Adventures, and he duly processed an order for me.

The order arrived perfectly packed the following day - impressive service.

I went on to fit the kits myself - It's dead easy I was told, even for a numpty like me. I pulled the headlamp unit out, and cut out the plastics for the fitting of the lamps. All seemed to go together really well.

Put everything back together, and fired her up.

Worked perfectly ..........Except nothing on the dip beam

I PM'd Mick as I didn't want to call as it was a Sunday and got an immediate response.

"It's very rare, but occasionally we get a duff bulb from the factory. I'll send you another" says Mick.

Another bulb duly arrived, and I fitted it yesterday. Works perfectly

Great bright light, and perfect service from Motorbike Adventures - I highly recommend.

Not sure what model bike yours is but I have a 2010 GS and am going through the same thing as with others after trying a number of 35W different ballasts, wiring looms only to find it is the bloody Canbus. I was getting frequent LAMPF failures with the lights working. Taking it in tomorrow to the dealer.

I would try this first before driving yourself crazy like I did... plug the original light into the original connector in the lamp housing (doesn't matter which way the light goes in). If the light does come in then it is either your Canbus shutting down the circuit or the ballast, hid bulb or wiring loom. Try the other ballast ideally with a different light and loom (ie use the main beam circuit) if that works then it is the ballast. If it still doesn't work then it is your Canbus. Apparently some Canbus systems are more sensitive than others and in the case of my bike it wants to see the wattage of the halogen (55w I believe) and it doesn't like 35w.

If it is the Canbus my dealer has said that sometimes disconnecting the battery for 30mins and charging it fully off the bike clears the canbus. If not and it keeps going out (if it is a similar bike to mine) then it is a friendly trip to your dealer.

Quick fix if you have HID fitted to the main beam is to plug the main beam ballast loom into the dipped and turn on your high beam until you get it sorted.

Thank for the
Recommendation we try to post out our products the next day or same day if we can! The 55 Watt units we use have been tested round the globe in all sorts of conditions, from deep river crossing where our ballast units have been totally submerged to sand and dust storms -20 degree frost and snow to +40 and altitude so we are happy to put out name to this particular unit. We only use 55 Watt kits as we believe these are the best and we feel cause less problems with an CanBus systems they are fitted too.
I see from other posts like above people have problems with the 35 watt kits. We have also found ourselves that the RT’s have a very sensitive Can Bus, and on these bikes we use an extra module to ensure no LampF lights come up. It’s basically an extra decoder to fool the canbus into thinking all is well LOL.
We appreciate all the business we get and want to ensure all customers are happy with our products.

I would love to add an autocom to my GSA and would need the bluetooth thingy for the Sat Nav. I was always put off by the mass of options available and the need to get my wire cutters and soldering iron looked out. I have a limited ability to follow a circuit diagram that has more than 1 wire.

However after all the good press about motorbike adventures it looks like a much more predictable outcome could be achieved by calling on them.

I live at the wrong end of the country but have just discovered that I will be fairly close to Bedford with the bike for a couple of weeks at the start of April so I am very tempted.

RT's and HIDs

Hi Claw,

We do use de-coders but they dont work on all RT's so its a little hit and miss! We are currently testing a NEW HID unit just for RT's it was fitted to the test RT today as it happens along with the little super LED's that we sell that also do not bring up LAMP F! The PRO HID units we have are a little thicker that normal but the fitting today went well! and i will keep you posted on results! Heres a couple of Photos!

Hi all, I too have just fitted an HID kit to the dipped beam of my GS, from motorbike adventures. AWESOME. Much more light, and looks cool with the matching LED side light. Only problem is it makes the main beam look weak and feeble.
Its a shame that they are not a legal modification as i think they are much better than the original system.

Thanks for the feedback ! Let me know if you want to do the main beam! Never had a problem with the lights myself thus far and have 10 to 15 police offers who have upgraded their bikes! I only know of one guy who got asked to switch off his aid lights lol. Thanks for the business
