Motorbikes subject to Ldn congestion charge

.... the interviewer said they were looking into finding some sort of charging system, if not for riding, then perhaps parking !

A man of Steptoe's talents could surely rig up an easy GS conversion kit to do us all the needful:-

When I emailed my local GLA member the only response I got was, "Motorcycles reduce congestion, Tory Richmond is experimenting with allowing motorbikes in bus lanes." Sounds like an automated response. I'm glad my council tax just went up another 5%+ to over two grand which given that its not peanuts, why do we still get monkeys?

Oh this just gets better! After a lengthy reply to my reps (Tony Arbour) automated response, all I receive is "Its a matter for Livingston alone."

Anyone else getting anywhere?

:banghead:

Monkeys is far too polite a word, and does injustice to the primate world. I think some other organism is in order - perhaps rats, pond life or some other form of vermin?

I got a letter today from another part of our great administrative rulers, letting me know that they want £2400 from me because they accidentally gave me too much tax back!

I'm catching the next boat out of this sinking ship, anyone coming??!

I'm absolutely certain that the days of free motorbike parking in London are numbered. More and more pay and display bays are popping up all over the central area: Waterloo station is now operated by NCP, there's a big one in Snow Hill, another on St John's Street.

It's only a matter of time people

got this reponse from the journalist at the Evening Standard:

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately the story got slightly tangled in the telling, but the essence is true - TfL's safety committee has suggested introducing the C-charge for bikes and scooters to further reduce the number of "KSIs" - killed and seriously injured - riders on London's roads. This emerged from the official board papers to last week's TfL meeting, which can be viewed on its website. Interestingly, Ken Livingstone made little comment when the matter was being discussed at the board - but issued the denial once our story was published and all hell broke loose.

Richmond ? Tony Arbour?

Described being frequently mentioned in the "Rotten Boroughs" section of Private Eye as "...a badge of honour"

I don't beleive a word of it myself...

Don't I know it....paid 3.50 for an hour there today....

They are looking into charging bikes and scooters (GLA is one of my clients - can't say more).

No decision has been made - yet - on what form this is going to come in, partly because of technical constraints (i.e. camera positioning), but it is possibly going to happen. I suspect that there is no great concern about how popular this is going to be (Ken's loathe for 2-wheels is renown), but they might do it.

And as far as the rise in casualties goes (which is the official excuse for the introduction of the charge), that is mainly due to the massive increase of scooter and motorbike users, mostly learners or not very experienced. And i find the fact that they are trying to bring the casualties down by descouraging people to ride obscene  . Also, when will they address the issues with drivers being one of the main causes for motorbike accidents? I would start arresting people not indicating or u-turning without looking, that would surely bring the casualties down.

Why don't they make riding illegal altogether - that would definitely meet their targets.

(sorry about the rant - fell better now....)
