Swagman Tours has a secure storage facility for bikes in the Faro area, approx. 10mins from Faro Airport.
So if you need to cut your short and want to return at a later date, your bike can be kept in a safe storage warehouse, with CCTV and Uzzy the Rottweiler.
Transfers to and from public transport can be arranged as well as local short stay accommodation.
Drop me a line for any queries on [email protected].

Please advise:

Is there any minimum or maximum time period for the storage? If so, what?

Is the vehicle kept on a battery tender?

How much prior notice do you need for:

A. Arrival

B. Removal

Cost?

Thanks.

Sounds good.

Is your storage facility insured for issues such as fire and theft, or is it down to the motorcycle owner to sort cover?

Some insurers only provide a fixed period of European cover, not sure if that includes an unattended bike ??

Just looked at my Devitt policy booklet. There is a "normally kept in UK" clause which could exclude leaving the bike overseas when you have travelled back to the UK. Of course, the circumstances would be pertinent e.g. the underwriter might be more relaxed about the matter if you were too unwell to ride home or flew home to deal with a family emergency. They might be less relaxed if you did not have a return ticket for the bike or had several stamps for Eastleigh Airport to/from Faro in your passport as you would be deviating from your declaration on the proposal form about storage of the bike.

I wanted to leave a bike at a relative’s garage in Italy, my insurance advised that as soon as I left it and went home, my insurance would be invalid. If I wanted to accept that risk, when I went back to start another trip, assuming the mot hadn’t expired, I would need to phone and get agreement for cover to start again. They weren’t prepared to tell me how the x days per trip would work - did the meter start from zero on the next trip?
I suspect a lot of folk fall foul of it, bikes and camper vans and all, or have better policies.

This is the case with a lot of insurers. They threaten to suspend the policies, but do not provide accurate information when you are paying/starting a contract.
If one has to be anal, it goes both ways (terrible mental image, I know :D ).

As always, check the fine print.
A few year ago, when I hydrolocked my GS, I had it shipped to Italy, where it was fixed. I then moved it and stored it in a relative's garage in Rome for another couple of months. Then shipped a friend's GS too, we flew to Italy and rode the bikes back to London. Wonderful trip.
At the time, my understanding was that the policy reverted to just the bare basic coverage and there would have been no theft cover, that I was fine with.

I'm currently insured via BMW Motorrad (forgot who the underwriter is) and they offer a very generous unlimited European coverage. Might make sense to check with them if one is planning extensive travel abroad.

It’s a tourist agency / tour company of some sort. I sniff a whiff of spam.

The pages of their website are not yet complete, as they still show the prompts that the webpage ‘creator’ gives:

The video has a jaunty tune but appears to be stuck on a generic image of Paris:

In a very rare but brief emergency, I guess the ‘Secure storage facility’, might - at a push - be handy? But as to leaving something there for any like an extended period, no thanks. Good luck getting your bike back if the company folds whilst you lie on your bed of pain. Perhaps ATT could mosey down there and (to use a bikermate expression) scope ‘em out? He can always kill them in inventive ways.

PS ‘Secure storage facility’ could be anything from the fellow’s garage to a DHL’like fenced warehouse, surrounded by razor wire.

As Swag is a longstanding member on here (39 hours?) I cannot see any such problems that cannot be overcome by my pound of butter in the fridge.
I for one will be buying more butter today.
Oh, and I am not fond of rotweilers.

Hi,
At this time I have have a €75K Liability insurance policy in place, but am working with local insurance companies for enhancement.
I can inform that with Portuguese insurers the vehicle is insured annually be stored or ridden, others I can't pass comment.

Hi Wapping,
Yes, Swagman Tours is a Tour agency, it is my 1st line of business.
Swagman provides daytrips & airport transfers.
My 1st love are motorcycles & motorcycle activities & this is where I spend all my time, be it riding or working with my local motorcycle club (Moto Clube Faro) and helping motorcycle travellers in particular.
Regarding the storage facility, its warehouse located on the ground floor of the house where I live. The surrounding grounds are barbed wire fenced & CCTV is at this time being augmented.
I have Liability insurance in place.
If you'd like to send anyone out to have a "mosey round"or "scope out" they are most welcome.

You wouldn`t catch me down there, full of Brits and tourists.

I can provide bike storage here, but no guarantees of any sort and no battery chargers, only me to take them out and rag the arse off them regularly and charge you for the petrol. :D
