End of this month (bit of a tradition this time of year), I;d like to stealth wildcamp with bike somewhere and am struggling to think of anywhere to do this.

I normally go soloing by foot with everything I need on my back, but as this year is my first official year with a bike, I'd love to include it as well. :)

Before anyone says yes I know wildcamping in uk is not allowed.

Woud be nice to roll up somewhere and setup camp where ever I stop. The head off again first light.

Offroad skills are very basic so nothing too adventurous, but I am dumb enough to have a go at pretty much anything...

Thanks

ferrol.

If you're asking where to wild camp then it's not really a good idea to post suggestions all over the internet:blast

I've wild camped in the new forest on a few occasions...strictly forbidden of course... But easy enough... Also done it on Dartmoor in Wales and yorkshire....

Wild camping is allowed almost anywhere in scotland for 1 night

Not that ukger.com condoles such actions as it is strictly illegal in UK.

So I'll open up to with a nice campsite where no one is around. And I get peace and quiet. ;)

Thought to be honest there is a bazillion wildcamp spots in google, but none that I can drag a bike up.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you are "caught" wild camping and who would be the people that do the catching? It all sounds terribly frightening.

AFAIK you are asked to get off the said land. If you don't you get arrested for trespassing.

Correct me if I am wrong.

not shure whats ment by wild camping

is this were you just camp up on any land no matter were it is ie fields bus stops lol etc

Pretty much, anywhere, wild as in not a designated campsite.

Done lots before, its great, travel/walk until you've had enough or are starting to lose light. Then just setup your home for the night.

In the morning, packup and carry on. You can have the hills to yourself, as people are getting off you can be just getting on. I've seen sunsets and sunrises on and had them all to myself. Mug of hot chocolate watching the what feels like the first day to ever be created.....

Lets just say I like doing it... a lot.

Ride up over the border into Scotlandshire.. I'd considered the forest of Galloway a few weeks ago but weather didn't go as planned

With a little off road skills you should be able to find somewhere to hide. One guy on here posted a report in France where he was doing it. He actually covered his bike in branches to hide it. The blue tent was a bit of a give away. But being France its so much bigger so there are less people to spot you. I say give it a go. What can they do to you. The Police won't be interested as its a civil offence. Just look at what Pikeys get away with. Don't make a mess and then who can complain.

If I was to do it I wouldn't even pitch a tent. Just get in my grot bag under a plastic sheet once it gets dark. Only the bike shows then.

PS. If you won't to camp in my front garden feel free to do so. Just take your crap with you. But I live in a boring part of the country.

yep, sorry to be blunt but you are completly wrong.

Simple trespass is a civil offence not a criminal one, therfore not arrestable, otherwise every pikey in the country would get arrested for it!!!

Now criminal tresspass is a different thing and a specific offence, an only covers specific areas, such as MOD, railway property, sites of sicentific interest.

I stand corrected :) no worries hence the correct me if I'm wrong bit.

Yes I may end up straying further a field. Have only got a weekend so was hoping for a local one. But will see. Thanks to all for some basic ideas anyway.

Any more experiences to be shared?

I was happy to rough camp and have done so 20 or 30 times, getting the kit right makes the night more comfortable.

A 'bivvy' type water resistant sleeping bag, a tarp & a camo bike cover is all i took on my rough trips. I also tried a 'mountain shelter' but that was very stuffy and I got as wet from condensation as I did from rain/dew. If it was going to be cold i'd take a bed roll

Usually I just rode until near dark, pulled up a tiny country lane, nipped into a field and set up camp there. I was only approached once by a farmer. he was surprised and had only spotted me because he saw the steam off my kettle, a cup of tea and a buscuit and a promise to leave no rubbish or crap in his hedge and he was happy. I think he was expecting poachers or pikies so was pleased to find me.

Lean the bike on it's side stand (leaning away from you) pop the camo bike cover over the bike then string the tarp up between the bike and the fence/hedge/wall and bobs yer mums brother, normally i'd advise leaving your expensive tarp at home as damage is inevitable. However I have an Exped Tarp which has elasticated strings and plenty of guy ropes, that helps make setting up neatly a doddle.

If you are easily freaked by nature, pick and choose your spot well, I liked tucking in behind dry stone walls (not draughty) but they tend to channel the wildlife along them so there is always the chance of a late night 'visit' from a local.

Hedges are surprisingly see through when daylight comes around:blast

I'm not much into cooking and eating my own shit & snot, so i've normally got a good stock of goodies with me, a hot cup of tea and a chocolate hob-nob can easily chase away the blues.

I bought an old sailing night vision monocular from a guy here a few years back, that is brilliant at settling the nerves on real dark nights. I don't normally use a torch at all, there is a corny old saying about 'use a torch and only see a few feet, don't use a torch and see the world' it's very true. An LED head torch can be seen for miles and is the best way to attract people to your camp. unless you have a red lense or a dimmable jobbie, use some tape to cover most of the head torch lens just leave a tiny hole that will be enough for furtling in the dark for your baccy.

Good luck:thumb2

Like what Pigeon shooters use..?

Oxford do one that is a white sort of snow and rock type diffusion pattern leave that outside for a while and the UV turns it to an autumnal dapple, that's what I used, but i've seen the shooting ones and they look cool too.:thumb
