As the title suggests, does anyone know if these would be good enough for bike to bike comms as a cheaper alternative to the kenwoods?

Anyone have personal experience with them?

Here's a link to Amazon for them http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-TL...Motorola+TLKR+T80+Extreme+two-way+radio+-+PMR

T80

I am currently trying to set this up as cheaply as possible.
I am using Scala G2 for myself and SWMBO, it works flawlessly. Myself and a couple of mates are off to SPain and France this year so want to set up comms. They are curently using Autocom hard wired to their bikes and are getting fed up of all the wires dangling everywhere and are thinking of moving to the dark-side (Bluetooth). One of them has splashed out for a new Schuberth and SRC system after being told by the sales rep it would talk to my Scala, after hours of messing around I can confirm it does not work with a Scala G2.

The next (cheapest) option was for me to rig up a Motorola system. I currently have a T80 with a VOX headset attached. A bit of soldering and hammering and glueing onto my openface helmet. A road test proved it worked but with the VOX setting, my open face was too noisy and the channel was open all the time, even on the highest VOX setting. Switching to PTT was better but the signal was intermittent.

There were 3 of us on the road, about 1/2 a mile apart and we could all hear each other although we could not all talk at the same time. I am now waiting for a better quality earpiece and mic for the next test but if this doesn't work then I wont be spending any more cash. I'll let you know the results soon. :beerjug:

Just seeing your reply here now, thanks for the info.

In the end i ended up getting a kenwood off of here as i got one from ebay for a steal so I've went down that route.

I have an autocom pro avi myself so I'll get a ptt switch and the battery replacement thing to charge from the autocom and then a headset/ptt setup for the other bike as it doesn't need an autocom.

I had the scala 2 headset before and thought it was great for the intercom with the pillion but a bit of a hassle to tie in with other riders especially when a few mates where on the autocom setup

each to their own i suppose!
