I took my Honda VFR800 05 to BMW to get a price re a trade in for a 1200 GS during the week. Had a look at some 1200's and they wheeled my bike into the workshop to check. OK so far. The sales man came out and I said I'd like a test ride but will have to come back another day. I then asked what my bike was worth and he had made details on some BMW paperwork. He then said we we will have to juggle some figures about and would not give me even an estimate for my bike! He then stated that their mechanic had checked the bike and the break pads were right on the limit. I stated the bike had a 1200 service and had done 13300 and Honda service at 12000, all was ok. So I left the place and the next day took the bike down to Honda, and they checked and said the pads were fine until the next service. Bearing in mind I know the guys down there, I knew they would not be telling me porkies as I have my servicing done there. So what is the motto of the story. Well I was'nt left very impressed with Motorrad!

You're always better with a Honda :thumb2

Blimy that's where I have neem going wrong all these years, I have'nt been using me fecking eyes lol

1) The salesman sounds typical for any bike or car dealer anywhere in the UK. He is trying to impress his boss and maximise his commision.
2) Go for a test ride first. If you decide you want one, then approach the salesman with a glint in your eye and then juggle the numbers. Never accept the first offer - and if the numbers aren't right, then walk away. At least you have had a nice test ride.

Hope you're not thinking of buying a second hand one from Park Lane, as they've been advertising their second hand machines at prices in excess of new ones for months. Funnily enough, they don't seem to be selling any :)

Best try and sell the vfr private than trading in to a BMW garage, they always provide fairly poor trade ins for jap bikes.

Good luck with the purchase :D

Or

Ride down to us, demo the GS on some of the best roads available, far better than sitting in traffic all day! Have a great meal in the Royal Oak next door and take a stress out of trying to buy a bike.

Thanks for that. I may well take a ride down some time. The only reason I was looking to trade the VFR in was to save all the mucking around/time. I did put it in the MCN news in the summer but only got one response, and that failed to materialise. Perhaps the market will pick up after Xmas!

I expected - and received - a rubbish trade-in offer from a number of BMW dealers when trading my 1100RT. Sold privately to a "very nice man" who was too scared to ride it home to Surrey from North London in winter - so I had to ride it home for him!!

PatBoy,

I would PM you but you need to subscribe!!!!!

Ping me an email ([email protected]) with the details of your VFR and I'll start working on a part exchange value if you wish, we've only got a couple of unregistered '07 models left, one in Night Black the other in Desert Yellow.

PD

Good to see someone at least is interested in sorting you out :thumb2

Hi Patboy, if you decide to sell your VFR privatly, DON`T use MCN, bloody rip-of.

Put it on the net with Biketrader - 20 quid for 2 weeks with multi photos. Really easy to use, & your word allowance is huge.

I`ve sold my last 2 bikes using this method, never had a problem - bargain.

Good luck & hope you manage to get a GS, you will definatly not be dissapointed :thumb
