Has anyone had problems with the battery on this navigator v off the bike. I have had two not holding a charge from wall socket usb, laptop usb or the accompanied wall charger supplied with the unit. Works ok while on bike. Have tried Ebay for one without luck, battery with 4 wires required. Garmin cannot exchange as they do not have Motorrad sat navs or batteries for them. Dealer says batteries are not listed from sat nav, would they have to exchange unit rather than battery?

Helpful comments or way forward to this dilemma please.

Is the device turned off or in sleep mode whilst charging?

I have three Nav V's, none of which have ever had a problem with the battery holding its charge. To hear that you have had TWO devices that fail to hold their charge is surprising.

Two questions for you to answer, please:

1. You tell us that the two devices charge OK when they are on your bike. When you remove the fully charged devices from your bike, how long did the two devices hold their power for? A minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month?

2. When you took the devices off your bike, did you:

(A) Just leave the devices?

(B) Push the on/off button once, turning the screen black?

(C) Push and hold the on/off button until the screen altered to show a prompt as to whether you wanted to shut the device down completely (turn it off) and if so, to slide the on-screen slider? Did you slide the slider?

Look forward to your news.

PS You are in the 1200 GS WC section, where bods get confused over how to get onto a motorbike and whether their head suits their hat. There is a very good GPS section:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/46-GPS-Info

In the GPS section, they are less concerned with the make and model of a fellow's awesome steed, than with his problems with a GPS device.

Thanks guys for replies, being an aule duffer and new to forum ,still finding how to navigate this site. Will take on board what has been asked and let you know. English Dealer informed me today that they will supply replacement for princely sum of £56.So much for Local dealer knowledge. Anyone know of a cheaper replacement?

regards
peter

A replacement what for £56?

Any answers to the two questions before you shell up fifty pounds?

Make sure it's turned off & leave on charge from the mains for 24 hours solid, beyond that don't know.

When it is off the bike make sure that it is fully shut down by pressing and holding the rear button. If you don't do this then it still draws enough power to flatten the battery.

Hi Wapping , £56 is what BMW charge for a replacement battery. However i took what you said onboard and it would appear that i was putting in sleep mode. Took your advice and have left on charge overnight and battery is now holding and shown fully charged. Thank you everyone who replied for advice .
