Has anybody been on BMW Motorrad Tours? Upsides/Downsides?

Yes, several times. Always slickly organized, well led with personable guides, comprehensive tour pack, great routes and hotels and a big plus for me you can ride on your own at your own pace chose your own stops and then meet up in the evening and chat with the others ( or follow the leader if that’s your thing).
Price wise I’d say fair. Better than others I’ve used with a similar quality.
Yes, I’d recommend and definitely use again.
TMF has done one and put it up on his facetube thingy, so you could watch it and see if it appeals. He went to Norway if I remember rightly.

Despite some cynical views to the contrary, I know that they represent reasonable value, perhaps underpriced even.
We enjoy staying in hotels we woudn`t normally afford.
You will decide to keep in touch with a select few over the years, as we have done, or not - your choice.
If thats your view of me so be it.

I have to agree with @Barnoe here...the prices are simply nuts IMO but then I think I am pretty good at managing tours for myself and others and of course I don't make it a business.
I think it clearly works for those that just want a plug an play tour and can afford it. To me the planning of a tour is part of the enjoyment.....
But then I shit myself when I have to put together a load of Ikea furniture preferring to pay some bod EURO 700 to do it for me....

Do they start the tours with a ride into Poland.
We did Norway in 2024 with Motorrad Tours and it was superb Scott the tour leader was brilliant we're thinking of doing Their "Yu go slavia" tour next year.I find it a ball ache finding decent hotels Motorrad sort all that.
I am that lazy but not rich type so generally I ask Simon Weir to do us a tour,we book the hotels , which seems to be gettiing harder as most seem to want 2 night min stays ,he then sends us the gpx files with maps and notes, great routes ,great service

I've organised 4 tours across Europe for me with friends. I typically download routes from the Ride magazine website. I have honestly never had a bad days ride. I've done their Pyrenees route twice now, it was so good. Italy was fantastic too. Typically, 200 to 230 mile days, 6 to 7 hours in the saddle. Very little dual carriageways, some sublime views and great bends. We have a break every 60-90 minutes, sometimes for photos / leg stretch, or coffee, lunch etc. It works brilliantly and is typically a 9am start, 5-6pm finish. I book hotels by finding the end point of each day and putting the location into Booking.com. That usually gives a dozen or more options to choose from.
A 2 week tour takes me about 15 hours to plan. That includes building it all into a powerpoint pack for me and the other guys and a spreadshhet of costs. So a bit of an investment in time. But I find it gets me really anticipating the tour and I tend to go on to Google for info on where we're staying. Cost has been £80 to £110 / night B&B in 3 or 4 star hotels. I've only had one disappointing hotel (Switzerland) and some stellar hotels. Beer on arrival, shower and out to explore, get a restaurant and take the Mick.
I enjoy the holiday more than the Planning, but I'm happy to do it and it adds to my experience.

Been doing this for 20 odd years, nothing to it these days with booking.com and googlemaps/MRA/Kurviger etc etc.
We used to do it with paper maps and rock up into a town, head for Tourist Information and book hotels there and then.

Having been on several or their tours, I think they are well planned, with excellent accommodation.
The one exception being the hotel in Thurso, just after the first lockdown. They have apparently never used it again.
It is obviously cheaper to plan your own, which I have been doing since my first European trip in 1979. This is just an easy option then I can afford for something different.

I think Motorrad use quality Hotels which, inevitably, demand a price......especially since covid. Meeting others on tour at coffee stops and for an evening beerr /meal/talking bollox adds to the enjoyment.

I know a couple of people who have been on them and enjoyed the trip. Ignore the naysayers and 'you should do it all yourself' brigade....if planning isn't your thing or you are cash rich and time poor, having it all laid on is a sensible way to get a trip in.
I have to agree. I’ve been on a few of theirs and they were excellently well organised and run. Then they started to chase the overseas customers and the prices became absurd and I mean, ridiculous!
Just come back from my second tour with Magellan - I find the price fair for what they put together in route maps / poi's / hotel standards / support etc.
As someone who frequently travels alone, I generally do all my own planning and booking I know it's not hard to do this - but it's kinda nice to have someone else suggest things to do or see - things that you can take or leave.
Also like the way you can ride still completely independently and still meet up with the group or a beer and dinner in the evening if you wish to. Good to have the social side which isn't always there when going solo.
Cheap it is not (very little is anymore!) - but value for money, I reckon it's good. And that's without factoring in the back-up / support of guides if you really need it.

Organised tours will always divide opinion.
For some they are an easy way to go somewhere. For others they are a potential (real or imaginary) rip-off, where the organisation company (or individual) seeks to profit indecently.
Go on it and make your own mind up; or don’t.

A lot of the posts in this section of the forum, ask for just that and more besides.
Totally agree - the forum is a wealth of valuable knowledge for routes and personal recommendations.
