Just curious of anyones experience recently with BMW used bikes. Specifically around the advertised price and whether there was any wiggle room ?

I think that sales have been slow so haggle hard. But remember you are dealing with professionals so don't expect too much.

Spring is here, sap is rising, prices adjust accordingly. You do not need to be told if it is possible; just do your best.

Zero wiggle room when i procured my 2016 - mind you it was about 1.5K lower than any other dealer :D

you have written this in the RS section, so presumably this is the model you are interested in.

If you are trading a bike in, then they might inflate your p-ex value a bit rather than discount the bike.

If you are a cash buyer, they are more likely to add in some extras than give a cash discount. Money off clothing, no charge for the next service.

Another factor with the RS is relative scarcity. The BMW Approved website shows 41 bikes across the country so a lot depends on whether a particular dealer has many in stock. Looking near me, the dealer in Chester has several, none in Shrewsbury and 1 on Cheltenham. I doubt Cotswold will haggle much but Chester might.

Well worth asking for extras to be thrown in foc. Cotswold did a mate a good deal on a one year old RS, throwing in a few extras foc.

Some interesting pricing, first registered in 28.03.2024 going for £14690, new £16710. Lost £2000+ in 12 days? Or just end of month bonus registration?

Yet this one in Standard trim is almost new price? https://approvedused.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/UK/detail.cshtml?on=512879
I must try harder next time

BMW often have end of quarter bonuses for dealers so maybe the dealer has something extra to give away. I suspect an error on the advert.

it's not standard, it has the flat bar option so pretty scarce on the used market

That was around £150 or around option if my memory serves me right, it is the same model as mine. Cruise and heated grips the only thing I added. No ESA. As you said not many around.

Asking for an extended BMW warranty(Inc EU cover)on top of the one that comes with it is always worth asking for.

There's 104 1250 RS listed on Autotrader today. Some by BMW dealers.
I know some other BMW dealers (e.g. Douglas Park) who largely advertise via their own website - their stock does not seem to appear on the main BMW Motorrad site. They have had an R1250RS for sale for ages. To my eyes it seems there are plenty of used RS bikes about if you are prepared to shop UK wide.

Autotrader lists 4,000 used BMW bikes The number for sale used to be a lot lower a few years ago. A buyers market?

Do your homework and make a sensible offer for a bike.
If they say no, walk away.
Leave your phone number and say "Ring me if you get any new stock for the money i have"
You will likely get a call 2 days later offering you the bike.
worse case scenario they will ring with a bike you can afford.

You have to be prepared to walk away more than they are prepared to drop the price.

In my case it wasn't a ploy, i really couldn't afford the bike at the price BMW wanted.
Still i couldn't have been happier when i got the call... my ghast was flabbered.

Thanks for the input guys. Been away from bikes for a few years and so am not up to speed with these things.. Still not 100% of going ahead yet either.

Would be my first Boxer engine and BMW. So, a bit different to other bikes I had in the past. I guess the nearest I had to the engine was a Aprilia Mille RSV 1000, which was an 03 plate.

I just used the customisation menu to build up a new RS to the same spec as mine and it came out at over £18,000  (chrome silencer, luggage ready, satnav prep, sport seat, pillion kit, belly pan, cruise, heated grips etc). There's a few used with less than 3K miles from as little as mid £12K to almost £15K, all decent spec.

finding it like a brick wall trying to get anything when buying cars these days, no one keen to do any deals of any sort, 'we price compare online' blah blah. They won't even chuck paint protection in! Not sure if stocks are still lower after the covid years or prices have taken a tumble.

Managed to get money off a used bmw bike recently but I have been a pretty good customer in the past, went in to the shop in person quite late on a Saturday pm and I think they wanted a sale for the end of the week/month. They wheeled a bike out I hadn't considered, the spec wasn't quite what I had in mind and I had gone in looking to buy new, so I offered a quite a chunk less and they came back with a counter offer reduction. No px. Deal was done in about 10 minutes.

I think it just depends, some stock they are more urgent to shift than others.

Just done the same with my SE so already have some of what you spec'd included (as it has the Dynamic and touring packs) I added the chrome silencer and headers too, plus heated grips, tubular bars, luggage rack and the bestest sport colours £16,545 to you sir which is around £800 more than I paid for mine in December so looks like the mothership has increased the price since I ordered mine.

Recently bought a 2018 1200 rally used approved and the sales man wouldn't buge on price but the bike was mint with very low mileage so I ended up buying it .
But I did get free delivery 🚚.
Ian.

My 2019/69 1250RT was bought from an indy dealer and i managed to get £288 off the price, and it delivered for £100 cash to the driver.

Thanks for the input -

Went for a test ride this week and loved it.. So will be looking out for a fairly new Used RS :)
