Motorway ‘blipper’ / smart tags - For ALL news, advice, how to get one and what’s best, irrespective of the country

What bank is it?

So, of the two badges I ordered.

Ulys: made the DD on my HSBC account, nothing happened. No money coming out.
SANEF: made the DD on my Monzo account, I can see the DD set up.

Ulys (like Mango) uses an IBAN, so I cannot use Monzo as it doesn't have one.
SANEF uses standard sort code and acct number as, I guess, they have operations set on this side.

Seems I was too hasty, saw a European currency charge on my account and thought it was the mango one, but no, had an email from them, tag frozen until Ipay the 1 euro bill, my bank details (IBAN) are not working ( "service specifique").
I've paid the1euro on my card and everything OK again, but direct debit not showing on my account. Seems a faff, will keep the sanef for now and order anew tag from them as battery life out of date now.
 
When you order the new tag from SANEF, remember to return the old one. They’ll credit you back with the deposit on the new tag.
 
I'm on the French motorways tomorrow. Will test the Ulys tag first. Pretty sure it will fail. :D

Try it as you drive towards the automatic barrier in the ‘Drive thro’ non-stop’ lane. That’s my tip of the day.
 
Unless it senses the other tag :D :D

I’ve hidden it in the plastic pouch it is shipped with, in the bottom of the boot. Should’t work there.
 
Mango Tag ordered on the 2nd March and delivered this morning (5th March). That seems like good customer service.

And have checked on the app and the customer account webpage and my tag is ‘actif’.

What bank account have you linked it to, please? My Santander account IBAN doesn’t seem to work with any of them…
 
I might have missed it in this thread but is there a card that covers the whole (or a significant majority of tolled roads in Europe?)

Hopefully, we’ll be wandering through France Belgium Germany and who knows where over the next year

The Mango card does France, Spain, Italy and Portugal.

Germany and Belgium are still free.

You can do it with two separate cards from SANEF / EMOVIS (they are the same thing) with the possible advantage that you deal with their office in Leeds or somewhere northern. I have their French tag, which was easy to set up years ago and has remained reliable ever since. They then do a separate tag for Spain and Portugal. They don’t seem to do a tag for Italy.

Mango (used to be APRR) offer a tag that covers all four countries.

Telepass offer a tag that covers all four countries.

Ulys offer a French tag that can be expanded to include Spain, Portugal, Italy

As usual, everyone will have their favourites and others their moans. The moans will vary between “The feckers think me steed is an HGV”, through “The feckers don’t work, mate”, through to “The feckers doughnut reco me bank” and ultimately “Which fecker uses a motorway?”.

Take your pick.

I’m on the border with Italy at the moment. The Ulys tag is working correctly so far. Beeps happily at every gate.
Tomorrow I’ll check if the other tag (sanef) that I’m keeping stashed in the bottom of the trunk is not picking up the tolls (don’t think so).

So far so good.

Still no debits though.

I linked to my RBS account

You have the option to use either IBAN or Sort Code and account number. I think I used IBAN, but not sure

My RBOS account worked through IBAN to setup account and get them to send out tag, very quickly as well. It's when they apply for the payment through direct debit,it all goes tits up.
Sure others have mentioned this previously.
