Update, as suspected I think Ulys isn't able to debit my bank account.
It took them one day to realise I was using the tag and to block it.

I managed to use it through 5 gates in Italy, at the last one in Ronco Bilaccio, I got blocked. The person on the intercom said my tag resulted as "deactivated".

Had to stop at the seaside house to pick some stuff, on my way to my parents' in Rome. This little stop gave me some time for a cup of coffee to ponder over this motorway tags tragedy. :D :D

You can go off people you know.

But, you have hit on the ultimate bikermate wheeze. Order a Ulys tag and use it until they twig that they can’t charge. The absolute genius would be to get two bikes through at the same time. Kerching, as they say.

Italian Espresso cups are very little :D

I guess I’ll have to argue with Ulys’ support team before getting back.
Changed car and this one seems to be wider, I cannot stretch across it anymore to pay the toll. :) Tag is becoming a necessity:D

Well, having checked my RBOS account, I see that Mango have successfully taken the One Euro payment. So hopefully that means my tag will stay active

The Tango with Ulys started.
I wrote them yesteday saying that the tag seems to be disabled and that I suspect they have problems debiting my account (based on the stories I read on Trustpilot reviews) asking how to solve as I need the tag fro traveling.

They responded with the usual spiel, informing me that I received an email about the payments (I did not) yesterday, and asking me to pay 40euros by credit card from my account control panel or bank transfer.

There is no facility to pay by card from the account, so I just wired them the money and sent them over the receipt.
Let's see what happens.
Based on my experience with Mango (and literally hundreds of reviews online saying the service is, in their words, shite), this will be a massive fail. :D

I worked with a French team and I remember their distinct disdain for the end-user. I thought it was limited to that team, but must be a widespread problem. :)

Well, having checked my RBOS account,

Is your account in Euro?

Mango tag received today. Invoice on app says they’ll take the €1 14/3. I guess we’ll see soon, but no DD active as yet on my Lloyds Uk account 🤔

I managed to pile up £148 of tolls for my next invoice with Ulys.
For the time being (current month's invoice) I only have to pay the 9.99 quid subscription and I already sent them 40 quid by bank transfer (with no acknowledgment of payment received from their side at all) and I opened an Euro account with Wise (Transferwise) and gave them the IBAN number + I requested them to update the mandate. New mandate signed and sent over last week, but still the old one is showing on my account.

Wise Euro accounts are based in Belgium, so I hope, even though they are useless French, they might be able to debit this account.

I'm trying all I can because I really need a French/Italian blipper... otherwise I'd have sent them where they should a few weeks ago.
Fucking disgraceful service standard.

SANEF tag sign-up worked perfectly. They also sent me a wrong billing (it said 50 GBP instead of 50 euros) and sent an apologetic email about the error 24 hours later.

Have a look at the payment itself on your account.

It should say APRR SDD. This stands for Single Euro Payments Area which thankfully the UK is still part of - look it up.

As this is not a UK based payment it may not show up in your DD list - it doesn't show on mine either.

I'm hopeful it will work when I get over there to try it - If I lived closer to the Tunnel I would just go over and try it. :D

I have just received an invoice from Mango for 9 euros which I assume is for the cost of the tag. I changed the bank account details to my Revolut euro account using the supplied iban number etc from Revolut. I expect them to try and take payment in the next few days and if it works I should be set for my trip in May - if not I'll be looking at other options.

I have always thought for an annual tour there is little point, typically we do maybe 50% - 100% of the first day on Motorways, and very little motorway in between, with maybe the last few hours back to Calais on Motorways - so probably no more than 5-6 tolls on a 2 week trip, with credit card in tank bag or easily accessible pocket it only costs us a minute max to get through.

For the sake of saving 10-15 minutes of a 2 week trip the aggro of getting tag and dealing with billing issues really does not seem worth it.

I thought that. But, having on my last long weekend jaunt to the Ardennes in November forgotten my tag for the first time in years, I was promptly reminded what a tedious chore even taking out a credit card to tap on the reader is, let alone faffing about with a paper card the machine has spat out.

I won’t be forgetting it again in a hurry.

The great thing about the tags, is that they don’t go off. They last for years. Put it with your passport or V5 and just pick it up, just as you would your insurance document or toothbrush. Stuff it in your pocket and away you go. They are that easy and cost pennies in the great scheme of things. Highly recommended.

Agree with Wapping.
Always had my Telepass when still living in Italy and was (happily) one of the "beta testers" for Telepass on motorbikes back in the day.
It will also generally also avoid you having to get in line at queues at tolls during summer/vacation times.

If you also travel by car, makes things even easier. Especially if you are traveling alone in the vehicle.

Having subscribed to all three services, unless you need the extra countries, go SANEF. Effortless set-up and it works.
Both Mango (tried months ago) and Ulys are a fucking joke.

I’ve had a SANEF tag about 8 years I think.
It always works .
Only used it on one trip last year and then used it again a few weeks ago.As Wapping said, just chuck it in a draw when not needed.
On the odd occasion that it thinks I’m in a car when I’m on the bike, it takes minutes to fill out a form to correct the issue but it rarely happens these days as the technology seems much better and 90% of the time the system recognises you are on a bike.

The 30 kmh car peages are the best as you don’t even stop.Just a shame they are only for four wheels.

Rasher, I’d suggest you get one. Then see how you get on with it. The EUR 20 (I think it is) deposit is fully refundable on the SANEF tag, so you’ll only spend whatever the monthly fee is for tge time you use it, the payage fee won’t alter, so that is neutral.

I reckon you won’t look back. It is perhaps the single ‘must do ‘ must have’ thing I really do think works.

That ^^^. £20 deposit, you get it returned if you send the tag bag. Then a small annual fee - I think £6.20?

Works on car or bike, sail up to the gate and it lets you through.

6.20 is nothing compared to being stuck in a massive queue in August in South of France (or Italy). :)

The 30 kmh lanes aren’t for cars only, you can use them on bikes too, unless they are specifically shown as “Reservé” with a panel across the top, which is unusual for the 30km lanes
