without wanting to sound stupid ;-)

if you've got (say) spotlights running off this system, they're switched on, you indicate left then cancel, won't the spots switch off as well?

ok - i've just thought about this and maybe i am stupid. it's the delay on the switch thats stops the spots turning off, right?

Ordinarily it might but the cleverness of these things ensure that shouldn't happen. If you push to cancel you give the switch a momentary flick/push. The clever AUTO/MOTO Switch gubbins checks to ensure you applied the switch on purpose (i.e. for more than a second) before activating/de-activating any switched lights. Anything less and the unit will presume you're swiching off your indicators. Clear enough for ya?
 
I’ve finally found the time to put together a PowerPoint presentation that runs through a Motoswitch installation. I will be including this, on a floppy disk, with every Motoswitch from now on. There’s no commitment and I will not be keeping any of the email addresses, so if your just curious and want a copy don’t worry I will not be selling on your address or using it for spam.

I've now scrapped the Powerpoint file and have created a PDF file with the same information. The file sizes are much better at 848k.
 
I recommend Rob's Motoswitch unit, I have recently purchaced and fitted the Motoswitch 2 unit to my 1100GS. It is well made and if you order the relay at the same time it comes pre-wired with spade connectors. The instructions that come with it, along with the new PDF file make fitting the unit well within the reach of most DIY GSer's. I orderd a in line fuse holder at the same time from Rob which take the same fuses as the rest of the bike. To sum it up I am very pleased with the unit.:)
 
Just seen this thread and was wondering if this is OK to run a GPS through this?

I'm not sure what you mean. :confused:

The motoswitch on its own can switch a 1Amp load, so anything upto 1 amp can be controlled. Most people are using the unit to switch auxillary lights so use a power relay to 'up' the size of the load that can be switched.

It would be easy to make a Motoswitch with a lead giving power to a GPS. I have several of the Lynx 'P' plugs laying around so I could easily make up a Unit to switch power to a Garmin GPS. I just cannot think why it would be used when its so easy to wire one direct to the battery (via a fuse obviously).

If you can think of applications that may need interfaces I am only too willing to make them.

Now my TWO sets of PIAA 1200s fited to MiGSels bar can melt the tarmac

I ordered my Motoswitch from Rob on Thursday, it arrived today ( Saturday ) and I had it all connected & fitted it in about 1/2 an hour.

It works a treat and is a lot neater than the Halfords switch it's replacing. All in all, a very satisfactory product and service from Rob.
 
2nd that!!

Finally got round to fitting the Motoswitch about 3 weeks ago, no real problems and works a treat.

I fitted PIAA's 1200 and used the wiring harness and relay that came with them and made a very neat job just used the Motoswitch switched 12 volts to drive the PIAA relay and lost some of the extra cable on-route to the ABS space were I fitted the relay.

Dip and main?

am going to order a light bar from MiGSel and bascically copy his setup....ie:- fogs on with dip
:- hella ff50`s with main beam
what i want to know is, is there a way to wire through your switch just in case i dont want them onn all the time?
the clown :0):confused:

If you look on the first page of this thread Mike posted a wiring diagram showing his setup for using different lights for High beam and low beam. It sounds like this would be a better solution for your needs instead of a Motoswitch.
