MotoSwitch - Auxillary switch unit

Can i have one of those mister?

Would like to oder a motoswitch 2 with one LED
please with relay. Have ordered a MiGSel light bar and thinking of going down the trusted route of Hell FF50 with the main beam then some fogs with the dip that i can turn off when i go through town. How do i go about putting in an oder and getting the money to you?
Also you say a choice of Led colours? What have we got? LOL

I've had a nightmare over the weekend. I picked up a virus from an email sent to me, unfortunatly, my AV software didn't pick it up. The end result was a complete reload. I have lost a few emails that I had not replied to. If you sent me an Email over the past few days and I have not replied could you please try resending. Sorry for any inconvienience.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for sending the MotoSwitch over. I've fitted the thing now and all seems to be really jolly super. Excellent quality, all the fittings and bits needed included in the packaging.

Fitting was pretty straightforward, eventually. If possible, I'd like to make a constructive recommendation on the instructions. I got quite confused, not knowing anything about electronics, with a particular point.

On Stage 4 of the pdf, you say "slide the two power wires through one of the holes in the grommet". I had no idea what the "power wires" were. Referring to the printed instruction sheet, it says in section 5 that the "power wire" is the red/white one. At stage 5 on the pdf, it says to connect this wire to a wire within the fuse box. So the "power wires" referred to at section 4 must be different things.

Eventually, after a few beers, I worked out that the "power wires" were the wire that goes to the spotlights, and the wire that comes from the "+" terminal of the battery. At least, I hope this is what they are as that seems to make sense. If this is correct, could you modify the instructions in the pdf to clarify what the "power wires" in Stage 4 are.

I'm sure someone with rudimentary knowledge of electrics would have sorted this out in moments - it doesn't at all distract from the overall loveliness of this cool little widget.

I'll re write the explanation in the PDF. It seemed obvious to me when I was writing the text, but now you point it out it is quite badly worded.

No probs old chap. More by luck than skill or judgement, I managed to wire up the spotlights fine, and sited the LED on the dash where it pokes cutely through a little hole I drilled.

As lots of people use the MotoSwitch for wiring in lights, why not add another stage to the instructions showing a demo light installation. While you're updating the pdf that is :D

Anyway, everything works very well indeed - its a great little solution to the "spare switch" problem.

The original demo install showed light installs and loads of other bits, the problem was the size of the file, best part of 4 meg, so I cut it down a fair bit so that it could be emailed and put on a floppy disk.

I spotted some mini CD-Rs in PC world the other day, they hold 20meg of data, so that may be the way forward.

I'm going to look into buying lights so that I can make up a complete harness to sell with them. Most people seem to go with Ring lights though this could just be through lack of choice. The ideal would be to offer a complete kit including the light bar, but I'm wary of stepping on toes.

I've been hit by another virus (2nd time in a week and third overall) so I'm running a couple of days late. I have a back log of 6 Motoswitchs that need to go out. If you haven't received yours yet I promise they will all be posted by Wednesday at the very latest.

The Virus's have all been versions of the Worm_nachi and I think have come in on emails, but I'm not sure. On each occasion it has got straight through my Anti Virus software and crashed the computer.

Ok I'm back on track. I've got a new anti virus software, 2 firewalls and a few other gizmos for viewing and protecting emails before downloading. So lets try again?

I've now cleared the back log of Motoswitch units they all went in this evenings last post, so were in the hands of the gods and Royal mail.

Just need to catch up on emails now. Please be patient if I haven't replied yet.

Got mine off Rob yesterday and fit it today - excellent piece of kit Rob - well presented and fits well into the housings you suggest - little bit of patience (and a look at Gerry Wallbanks set-up) made it so easy - about 1hr to fit the unit - maybe 2hrs fitting the spots.
Plus - plus - he even PM's you to see if all is OK - now ask yourself - would a auto electrician do that???

Complete set up please!

Rob - I would be interested in buying a complete kit; fogs, harness, motoswitch, relay, and even a lightbar if you could supply one. An 'anything for an easy life' installation!

I've got an 1100GS with Touratech twin projector lights in place of the Transit Van style original. I want to make myself more visible to others, rather than improving my ability to see where I'm going, so I'm proposing to wire up a pair of fogs as driving lamps to be on all the time with the Touratech dip beam, which is a bit on the small side. Your switch will allow me to switch them off when required.
What lights would you recomend? FF50s or the Micro DEs?? I've no experience of either. Anyone else care to comment?

the biggest advantage over the autoswitch for me is that robs switches after holding the ind cancel switch for about 1 sec, so simply an on/off switch. whereas the autoswitch has a small 'window of opportunity' to work, something like between 0.8 and 1.5 secs, if you dont release in that time no switching takes place.

Must have been a different type of Autoswitch to the one that I have: brief click of indicator cancel does just that, longer click (of any duration) toggles the Autoswitch o/p.
