MotoSwitch - Auxillary switch unit

I`ve been saving up some goodies and gadgets (including Robs autoswitch) for a rainy day. Well it rained yesterday and today so off came the beak and the tank and all sorts of nice things went on whilst listening to Jeff Becks new album `Jeff`.
Quality time spent in the company of a loved one.

Nice job with the switch Rob...well done

switch

hi rob have used the switch for a few weeks now, for future ref i think 1 second delay is a bit long. ta ps hope this is of some use

Gerry,

I can set the delay for the units while I'm building them. A 1 second delay suits most people while anything below .5 secs tends to interfere with the indicator operation. I thought about making a unit that had adjustable settings, but that would bump up the cost.

Do you think it needs to be much faster?

GSGus,

The Prices are still:

Motoswitch 1 @ £19
Motoswitch 2 @ £20
Motoswitch 3 @ £21

This price is a delivered price in the UK. The Motoswitch comes with an instruction sheet, a floppy disk containing a sample install and three 'quick fit' connectors.

There is also the option to buy a power relay kit for £1.50 - this includes a 40Amp power relay, in-line fuse holder and a few connectors and cable ties.

I've sent you a PM with my address.

The default operating delay is 1 second, if you would like a different delay just let me know and I will progamme it in.

In light of Gerrys earlier comment, does anybody else think the standard 1 second delay is too long? I can easily make .8 Second the default.

Mine is too long

Hi Rob,

I have found 1 sec delay a bit too long, as I have to move my hand a over a little to press and hold the cancel buton. IMO .8 would be better. Hope this helps mate ;)

Hi Rob,

I've been trying to think of a way to to overcome the problem of getting a PTT (Push To Talk) button to work in conjuction with a two way radio (bike to bike).

It appears to me (one who still thinks electricity is Whites Mans Magic) that the indicator cancel button could be utilised as a PTT if your kit were incorporated and connected to the radio.

Do you think it would be possible to achieve this?

Ian

Ian,

I'm always willing to make 'Specials'. I presume you would only need a very short delay or even no delay at all if you didn't mind transmitting every time you pressed the cancel switch. By default the Motoswitch gives out a 12V DC signal, I had some circuit boards made a while back that drive a small relay so I can change the output into a 'volt free' relay contact if you just need to switch something on. You obviously would not want the unit to latch either?

It would be pretty straight forward if thats what you are looking for if not a bit expensive for what it's actually doing.

I didn't make that very clear. A modified Motoswitch would be the same price as a standard one.

Autocom make a lead for precisely this purpose. It incorporates a three way switch, PTT, Vox or constant transmit, so that your conversations with your pillion remain private, always assuming you have an Autocom unit. Ref 136 retails about £40

Hi Jay, I hope your attempt does work, mine didn`t. There can however be a faint possibility that he doesn`t want to sell me a motoswitch but I can not believe that. I hope he`s on a holiday and returning soon...
