Hi, this is my first post, and I do not even ride a GS (so far) so be nice to me. I am convinced that my life will not be complete without a $1800 Garmin 2610 to replace the $10 map pocket on the gas tank of my K1200RS. Does anybody know what kind of mounting hardware is appropriate for this? thanks Pat Gifford

There are many possibilities. Mounting a GPSR involves two sets of components, the first is a bracket that is designed to hold the specific GPSR you own, second is generic attachment hardware that connects the bracket to your motorcycle.

AFIK there are at least three companies who make brackets specifically for motorcycle mounting of Garmin 26xx series GPSRs, they are Garmin themselves, RAM, and Touratech.

Ram and Touratech also make attachment hardware. The attachment hardware is usually generic (not specific to any one model of GPSR or motorcycle).

You could try looking at these manufacturer's websites. Or, look at a motorcycle GPS specific website, such as Cycloactive to get some general ideas, then go look at the individual manufacturer websites.

I use a Garmin SP 26xx motorcycle bracket and a Garmin motorcycle electrical cable, and RAM-Mount brand hardware for the attachment to the motorcycle. This is fully satisfactory if you plan to stay on normal roads. If you plan to do off road riding, you might want to consider the Touratech bracket, which is designed specifically for off road use.

Thanks for the quick reply- I will look into these. Fortunately I can restrict my search to on road use so that will make the options a little easier to navigate for now.

Hi Pat,

I used to have a 1200RS, and I've got two mounting brackets that clamp on the center plate between the handlebars on the RS. They were for mounting a roadbook roller thingy, but you could put a GPS on too I guess.

If you're interested I'll make a few pics tonight.

Cheers,
Michel

Hi Michel,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your help. As it turns out, the guy at CycleGadgets.com told me to use the following mount:
RCB-RESCVR-L+SMALL BMW Reservoir Cover (Left) + R-A-M Ball. This replaces the left or right reservoir cover (this one is for the left side) and it has a RAM ball on top of it. I decided for this approach because I want the GPS on the side rather in the middle... never had a GPS on my bike before so I will find out how I like it this way. No need to follow up on your side.

Thanks
Pat
