Busy selling my Zumo 590 and going to upgrade to the Zumo XT. I already have a ram bar mount and extended arm to mount a Garmin 1" ball in.
Does the baseplate that fits the 590LM transfer over to the XT? I cant see any detailed pics on the Garmnin site and search is not showing what I need to know
Basically does a ram mount come in the XT box, do I need a XT specific one that screws on, or can I transfer my 4 screw one from the 590 across.
Something like this?

The XT has its own unique mount, it will not fit the 590 mount. It does however come with ram mounts. As it is quite a large unit, whilst a little pricey, I would recommend the Touratech holder, as it completely surrounds the XT and gives a good vibration free set up.

The pitch and distance between the four mounting holes is the same for the 590 as the XT. So the XT's mount will fit the RAM mount in your picture, assuming that your 590 did.

A. The device jumping out.

100% agree about the paranoia :)

For option A I can say the bog standard mount is very sturdy. I used it on my GS offroad (including quite a few crashes and drops) without any issues.

Option B: I just take take it off if I leave the bike unattended. Takes half a second (with the original mount :D ).

I would advise the OP to join the zumo users forum as while there's many similarities between the 590 and the XT, they are very different beasts. https://zumouserforums.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=48

Not least there's the "pleasure" of the RUT if you don't do the dance when importing a route to the XT, and always there's the faster road not always equaling the fastest route which combined with the RUT problem can cause much confusion.

Thanks John, been reading through the "All there is to know " thread already.

I have never had too much of a problem, using my two XT’s, both running bespoke routes. The key, as far as I can see, is to create the routes carefully in MyRoute (or I guess BaseCamp or MapSource, too) then check them on import into the XT and all is well.

It’s a method I’ve used for all Garmin devices, for as long as I can remember.

The but is, if the XT thinks that the route has only been "imported" then the RUT can occur. This didn't occur on any Garmin I know of up to and including the 595.
