Hi,
I have a GS and want to fit an extra auxiliary power socket wired straight from the battery via a fuse. I know loads of you guys have done similar things but wondered where to put the BMW DIN socket such that the rear of it wont be constantly drenched in muddy water, it has a bad enough effect on by legs and don't want to expose the electrics to that treatment. Any suggestions?

On my 1150 Adv there is room on the side of the 'beak' shroud, rider side of the screen - I don't know if there is room there on a 1200.

After having been for a run out in the muddy water. Look for a part of the bike that didn't get drenched. Fit it there. :D

What model GS do you have ?
Some manufacturers make a shroud for the clocks with a hole ready punched.
Makes your clocks a bit harder to nick too.

I was thinking somewhere easy to reach for the pillion, it's her heated jacket it's needed for

I have the powerlet socket for the 2013+ GS mounted near to the left side pillion footrest. Works well, has a sealing cap, jobs done.

I had one fitted by CW for the same reason, wife has never used it as she prefers the battery and I fitted an infill panel that covered the extra socket. All in all a complete waste of money.

Don't those DIN socket kits come with some sort of rubber boot/sleeve to cover the rear (wired) end of the socket? If not, I imagine it'd be easy to find some tapered heat-shrink tubing online? Then your location options wouldn't be so limited?

Examples showing the rubber sleeve:

Fitted mine left side below the seat. The inner part sits where the ecu is, so fully protected from the weather. Not the best pic, but you should be able to make it out.

That is neat, I didn't think there would be room next to the ecu but obviously there is. Thanks a lot I'm going to fit it there as you say the inside will be weather proof. Cheers JG
