Mounting - getting on

This thread just about sums up the 1200 section, fu*king hell I never thought I'd read a thread on a bike forum asking for advice on how to get on one.

... and

What JB said.

Either get a smaller bike, carry less shite or give up bikes and buy a camper.

Two little hints

1. Stop taking life so seriously.
2. Stop taking yourself so seriously.

:pullface

But you haven't helped the OP with his quest for help, dear heart.

Come on. What would you do / do you do?

Serious then Squire !

With a positive mental attitude Do not be afraid it,s only a 1200

1. Find a bike that fits !

2 Got 1 wrong Try to make it fit (least expensive option )

3 Place seat on lowest position

4 Remove panniers and top box

5 Find some level ground Push bike onto level ground

6 Place on sidestand

7 Make sure level ground surface is firm with no loose grit or banana skins

8 Wear bike boots other clothing optional

9 Stand on left of bike

10 Place left hand on left grip right hand on right grip

11 Grab a big handfull of front brake lever and keep it held

12 Swing right leg over saddle and as you go up onto the bike saddle pull bike upright at the same time.
Stabilise with balls of both feet downwards onto the ground.

13 Unlucky for some If you cannot manage to get here or from here flog the bike and buy a camper
If you can move on to practice with Topbox and Panniers fitted and additional crap added Buckaroo style

Glad to help Frank:rob
PS I am of Tosser weight with a 29 inch inseam and can manage an heavier 1150

Keep the planners on, but fill them and your topo with lead or concrete, set suspension to softest setting...

This is a great thread, its been a while since I have laughed so much at a thread. Am unsure when does a thread like this become valid for transfer to the Rant section? Highly entertaining - suggest we need some video of the various options / solutions just to add to the entertainment. Or perhaps a poll on mounting strategy and side stand current angle?

Ok my advice to Mike is to do what suits him best, and if that fecks up his side stand then he'll need to modify it to make it stronger. I would also hazard a guess that if he reduced the lean angle of the bike by putting a foot on the bottom of the stand, that might put less stress on the stand.

Just read all the posts on this thread. How do people like this get up in the morning.:nenau
JB - What a chancer but then he does live near the city beginning with "L".:augie More chips than Harry Ramsden

you could always use the footrest opposite the sidestand. takes a little balance and trust that the bike won't flip over on top of you (it doesn't for me).

advantages are that it doesn't stress the stand, and the bike doesn't overhang the peg. useful when wedged in on ferries too :thumb2
Takes a bit of mastering but is definitely the way to to do it.

Guys - thank you, thank you, thank you!

I haven't laughed as much in a long long time. This thread and the counter 'dismounting' thread have really cracked me up.

Still can't get my leg over though :(

Will try that, sounds like a good way to do it. I always use a footpeg to get on or off the 1200. my legs are too short to do anything else. Never had a problem doing it though.

Each to their own.
