As a new Tosser having just taken ownership of a new GS I want to fit the Hepco Becker Explorer Top Box that I had on my 650 GS as it is perfectly serviceable.

I know that Top box's are frowned on in some quarters but for day to day use I don't want to be lugging the panniers round.
Obviously the mounting from the 650 for the for the Hepco Becker Alu Rack doesn't fit.
I have searched but have been unable to find a clear answer.
On the Motobins site there is a luggage rack but is says that you have to cut the body work, which I don't really want to do, plus I don't really like the look of the rack.

Does any one know Hepco Becker do a specific mounting plate. I assume that they would but haven't been able to find out.

Thanks:thumb:thumb

I have a Hepco top box on my 1200ADV - it is tubular and a catch engages on the bottom of the case where I can lock it. What does yours look like??

I had no need to cut the bodywork to make it fit.

Motobins are the UK's Hepco importers. Give them a ring and they will tell you exactly what fits. They are extremely helpful and will no doubt fix you up

Thanks for the update. The box locks onto a flat plate which was mounted directly onto my old bike.
I'll give Motobins a call as looking at the Hepco Becker site again it would appear that they do a mounting kit for the GS.

Cheers

Just spoke to Motobins. As you would expect very helpful. Don't have the part in stock but are ordering it direct from Hepco Becker.

Thanks

I have a black H+B Explorer top box mounted on my 12GS with the H+B mounting bracket. However, I had to reinforce the mounting bracket to the bike with piece of 3 inch steel brace for further security. Reason being, i think there is a slight design flaw in the way the bracket attaches itself to the rear of the bike.
With the top box attached, all the weight is to the rear whereas the mounting points are towards the front! The screws have been known to snap due to the weight of the box and vibration so it is advisable to change the screws to a stronger type as well as reinforcing the bracket.
I did that and had no problems at all. Alternative to using the H+B bracket is to get a GSA bracket. Much better design as mounting points are distributed on a wider area.

Thanks for the update re the mounting, plate has arrived and I have put it on the bike. See what you mean about the weight all being at the rear. I think I will follow your advice and try to strengthen it. Othewise pleased with it, though definately won't be putting much weight in it as it is so far back.
