Mounting in a car i.e. Without the windscreen suction cup

Has anyone permenantly mounted a Zumo550 in the car ie not with the windscreen suction cup mount, I want occationally to put it into the Landcruiser and the windscreen mount will stuggle off road ;

How have you mounted it?

How have you powered it?

External Antenna?

If using the bike mount how has the audio been enabled (I presume that the audio out put will not directly power a speaker).

I guess it would be easy enough to fabricate a bit of alu plate as a fixed base and put screws through the plastic dish if the suction cup mount into the ali base plate. You will need to use the cradle part of the GPS mount to enable you to power it. guess it depends if its a pink softy's city 4WD or a proper purpose beast

Have a look through the RAM webite...they may have a permanent base with a ram ball that would fit the Zumo cradle

It depends if you need want to make holes anywhere, assuming not, you can still use the Garmin zumo cradle with existing bits from bike mount with RAP-224-1 and diamond base RAM-B-238 but instead of fixing onto windscreen use the adhesive rose RAP-350 which has adhesive pad and attach onto dash. It you sell vehicle or wish to remove later then warm hairdryer will soften glue to peel off.

I would not try and use snaplink RAP-SB-xxx with zumo .

Thanks will go and investigate the RAM parts and a connector in the power lead to swap the mounts over.

Garmin

Hi Roger, Haven't fitted my Zumo in the car, but have fitted my garmin 7200.

I got a friend to fabricate some steel plate and fix it behind the Heater panel

Here is a photo of the plate with the Garmin Base plate permanently attached.

I mounted it here because I think it is illegal to mount a 'screen' within a Driver's Vision,and where it is, it can be seen easily.
