Evening all

I'm thinking of getting a Givi Trekker 46 or more probably the Kappa version.

I have seen the Givi alu plate and the SW Motech alu-rack and adaptor. Are there any other options out there? Both these options seem astoundingly expensive for what they are. Don't like the look of the plastic Givi one.

Thanks

The Givi metal plate is a quality piece of kit. Very solid with well designed fittings. Just make sure you keep original bolts for when you sell.

Sorry pressed the wrong button there

What I meant to say was I have one of the plastic Givi mounting plates for my 16 year old maxi monkey top box on my gs lc - too cheap to buy a new one :)

That top box has been on a Blackbird, VMAX, F800GT, R1100SS and a CX650 Turbo all using the plastic Givi plate and I have never had a problem, so by all means you can pay extra for the aluminium blingy one but I can't see the benefit, especially as the official max load allowed with the metal one is 6kg whereas it's 10kg with the plastic one, so plenty more carrying cababilty for extra sandwiches, chains etc. Also you can't have the stop light or remote control for the case with the metal one (not that that worries me with my top box of historical interest).

The Givi universal plate is about £25 and fits the GSA LC rack without any problem.

Does it fit a non-adventure version? I have a TE if that makes any difference.

As for the alu one, i can't understand why it's rated so low in terms of carrying capacity. It's basicslly capable of carrying an empty decent sized top box! The plastic doughnut one ,mounts a good few inches higher and don't want to put the weight any higher than necessary.

the plastic one fits EVERYTHING it has a lot of slits that allow it to be fited to any kind of rack

Forgive me if this is a silly question but why bother with the bike specific one with the hole in the middle (which is far more expensive)if the universal one fits and seems to be lower also?

I did had a universal one on my VMAX & F800GT but found that it wouldn't fit on my '13 TE's OE rack properly so ended up getting the model specific one (without looking can't actually remember why it didn't fit) other people may have had a different experience?

The Givi plastic universal plates are thick, ugly and very fiddly to fit. Even worse they flex causing the box to rattle.
The Givi metal plates are expensive if you can get one and are also fiddly to fit.
The bike specific plates fit neatly using BMW mountings.
I did this on my hexhead Adv because swapping from BMW top case to Givi is simply a matter of undoing four M6 screws and nuts.

Sent somehow.

Thanks for that synopsis of each mount.

I can get the alu and plastic mounts for roughly the same price.

It seems (as I have always probably known deep down!) that the model specific plastic mount is the best in terms of functionality. I just need somehow to get over how ugly I think it looks without a top box attached to it!!

I have both the plastic one and the GS specific one. Relegated the plastic to my trail bike. The plastic ones can distort when its clamped down of the original carrier. When this happens the top box can be loose fit and rattle on the mountings.

The specific version is a quality bit of kit which also aligns the box correctly on the bike. I wouldn't now use the plastic version on a high performance bike.

When you say the specific version is that the plastic (sr5108) or the alu (sra508) version? I take it that the one you're ruling out is the universal mount?

My part number is SRA5112. I thought it was stainless its a sort of rippled effect but it may just be aluminium.

SRA5108
Specific rear rack in aluminium for MONOKEY® top case
maximum load allowed 6kg / it does not allow the assembly of the stop light kit or the remote control device on the case

SR5108
Specific rear rack for MONOKEY® top case
MONOKEY® plate included

Yes E251 is the plastic one. Its Ok I have had it for 10 years and its been on 2 GSA's and a couple of Triumphs before that, but as I am now using a givi trekker outback 58L and the solid plate feels far more robust.

Now I realise why we are referring to a different plate. My bike is a GSA which has a different plate to the GS.

Hi arrybash

You happy with the 58L ? I have always been put off by how big BIG it looks. even on the GSA.
Currently have the Trekker 52L (more suited to on-road bikes I guess) and looking for alternatives for my GSA. The small 40L boxes just don't suite my purposes.
