My girlfriend works from home and uses Thunderbird for emails. Her job is receiving emails and replying to them (from the comfort of own home which is nice work but thats another matter.......).

Yesterday her emails that had been opened already could still be read, however the dozen or so that had come in subsequently cannot be opened and no more emails have arrived. This is unusual in that she could easily get 100 emails per day.

We have trawled around forums and faqs and we would guess that its due to inbox being full? However, suggested solutions don't seem to work and I wondered if anyone has any workable solutions or has suffered this problem as well.

I would also say that the emails in the inbox are "pending" further action so just can't be deleted willy nilly!

Thanks in advance

As a quick and dirty fix, you could use http://www.mail2web.com/ to open and deal with today's emails while you look for the proper solution?

It should be fairly easy to transfer the account details into Outlook or something similar to carry on as well, if you can't get Thunderbird sorted.

No idea on the Thunderbird issue itself TBH- I did try it a few years back but found a few problems - I now use Googlemail for all of my email accounts, consolidated into one account and all linked up to Google Calendar and Docs- not had any problems whatsoever and it works seamlessly- I do periodically download everything from their servers using Outlook as well though, just in case Googlemail ever went tits up ;)

Thanks for the prompt and helpful reply. She can't get in using that either however I can access my emails from different accounts. This to me suggests that it may be a server problem at Thunderbird?

Erm maybe not- If you can access other accounts through Thunderbird?

It sounds like the email server that actually holds the Emails is causing the problems if Thunderbird isn't able to log in to it and she can't get to the emails via web2mail.......is it a company one or an ISP account and server?

It's them you need to be calling, not the Thunderbird people.

Its an ISP. The emails I accessed were my freeserve and fsnet ones using mail2web. I also tried to log onto her emails (whilst at work) using her address and login codes but received the same error message that she did trying to login at home......

Ah - an error message. You didn't mention that before.

Please elucidate...

:thumb2 And also what ISP?

Quite often there will be a message on an ISP's contact site saying if there's a problem with their server and estimated outage times etc- have you checked that?

An error message will certainly help nail down where the problem lies.

Is there a web interface for her email account? I manage all my emails with Thunderbird, but every now and then I need to go the web interfaces to sort problems.

Pass the quill I am getting out of my depth here

Not and error message as such I think, just on mail2web it comes up with

Error : Login Failure. Please check your email address and re-enter your password.

And I am prob confusing the issue with regards to ISP. My g/f uses the home pc which gets broadband from orange. The only prob she is having is with the Thunderbird account rest of tinterweb and email is fine.

The site she is getting her emails from is a USA based business one and her boss has suggested it may be the servers at fault and he also suggested using mail2web.

An update!
It turns out that the American server had crashed. Nice toknow the boss was so on the ball and well informed.................
