Wired up my Zumo 550 today and tested all the functions, MP3/Phone/Voice prompts etc.

All is fine but if I wind up the volume of the music and the volume slide thing with the + & - buttons the music gets a 'stutter' (as in it cuts in and out) on the loud bits :blast

The only way to stop it is to reduce the volume to 80% or drop down two Yellow bars with the volume - button.

If I plug my ear plugs directly into the Zumo bike mount all is fine so it is not a problem with the Zumo..... but obviously I loose the autocom function then :(

Any ideas?

Sounds like you may have interference from the bikes electrics

You need 'ground loop isolator' units plugged in between the Zumo and the Autocom, I got mine off Ebay for around a fiver each you need one for the lead for the music and another if you have the phone lead connected.

Its also important to route the leads themselves away from electrical sources, I put mine under the fuel tank side panels across the top of the tank.

Have you tried turning up the violume control on he Autocom, and reducing it on the Zumo?

I had similar problems - the Zumo / Autocom combination didn't seem to like all the oomph coming from the Zumo, but altering the balance seemed to solve it for me...

Which system are you using and what interface lead/s as I have never come across this before on any of our systems or Zumo's we have fitted here?

Cheers

That sounds like 'peak clipping' which would suggest the input signal is too much for the autocom amp.

Rich, it is an Autocom Active 7 Smart. Setting the volume to -2 bars is fine and acceptable, it seems as Pablo says 'peak clipping' which would suggest the input signal is too much for the autocom amp... this isn't a problem any more..... but.

The problem I have now is the phone :( I can hear the caller but the caller has a loud 'buzzing' in their ears and can not hear my voice clearly.

I have connected the audio out from the Zumo to the music socket on the Active 7 with a 3.5mm stereo lead, and the mic socket on the Zumo to the phone socket on the Active 7 with a 3.5mm stereo to 2.5mm mono lead.

I have a feeling that this is a well known issue with the earlier Autocom units.

I emailed Paul Barrett at Autocom and asked if there was a newer system on the market that would enable the Zumo to work correctly i.e. bike to bike, rider to pillion and all Zumo functions etc...... unfortunately he deleted my email without even reading it :nenau:(

My full apologies on the above regarding emailing Paul, but the main problem you have is that the connections for the Zumo are not suitable. Ideally you should be running either a Part 1300 or a combination of our Parts 1276 and 1314.

The other Paul at Autocom said unless I spend £103 on leads etc I will only get mono music, otherwise the audio out from the Zumo would need to be plugged into a £38 'splitter box' that plugs into the phone socket on the Zumo :nenau

I have decided to stay with the way I have wired it as my priority was the MP3 and Zumo prompts.... if the phone rings I'll just let it go to the answer phone, I can then listen to it by calling the voice mail back.... if it's important I'll pull over and return the call.
