I've just posted this in the wanted section, but thought I might lash it up in here just in case any of you can't get your walking frames as far as there:D

I have a 1990 R100GSPD but it has a KPH Speedo.

Us backwards folks here on the little Island have our own roadworthiness test for vehicles and I have to put the bike through it before they'll let me register it (its an offence to fail to register).

The bike has a perfectly functional KPH speedo but that isn't good enough for our vehicle examiners.

By any chance does anyone have one surplus to requirements which they may sell or even better swap for the KPH version.

Mods feel free to chastise if this is in any way inappropriate.

Can't say about I.O.M law but my 80GS has a KM clock with MPH stickers stuck on at the relevant place they need to be so to give the correct speed. I've had no problems at MOT time...

Cheers Graf

They have said quite clearly that stickers won't do. It was actually a UK bike with a valid MOT. Over here, we don't have MOT. Imports get a good going over on arrival and then that's it.

The speedos are model specific (the W number on the dial) so an R80 probably won't do. Motorworks knock em out at £297 so anything less than that would be a bonus.

Re motorwork speedo, Last year I bought a brand new from motor works, £174 can't understand why they have gone up over £100, "another company ripping us off"

MPH Speedo

I'd offer to swop you my MPH speedo which works fine; pity about the odometer - the thousand's digit no longer turns over.

But if you end up buying an MPH unit I'd consider buying your KPH speedo as my bike is now in metric land.

MPH Speedo

Hi Piebaps, I have an mph speedo for an R80/100 RS/RT, recently purchased that does not fit my ST. I am uncertain whether it will fit your GS.

It has W1244 below the tripmeter but is narrower than the speedo on my ST and is therefore too small for the instrument binacle.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Regards, Steve

With reference to the price rises on some parts you will now find that Airheads and early K series now are listed as archive on the BMW parts system. When ordering parts for these bikes you may find they are no longer held as spares in they UK but have to come from Germany. or maybe we are just being ripped off

MPH Speedo

I wonder whether you could fit a bicycle speedo ( Cateye or similar for your initial going over), and then leave it with the kph speedo ...............on a bicycle speedo you can set the wheel size so you can make it accurate for your bike............they get used in the UK for all sorts of odd things!

Thanks Duncan, that's just what I'm gonna do. No point in removing a perfectly good speedo. I'm just waiting to hear what our test centre will accept.

Thanks for the input guys!
