MRA Vario screen. Does it require the screen supports?

Hi.
I’ve used MRA products on a couple of bikes,FJR and a Crosstourer, and found them the best solution for me.
Considering the Vario screen for my 21 R1250GS. Asking those who have this screen, does it require the screen supports sold by a few makers or is it ok without?

Big screens are 100% better with support, I even have support on standard screen.

I have the MRA vario on my R1250GS. It's been on for most of the 2 years / 20,000 miles my bike has covered. I don't have screen supports.

There is some screen wobble but it's not an issue as far as I'm concerned.

For what its worth, I have a Puig screen on my 1250GSA. The screen is larger than the original. I previously had it on my last bike with screen supports but didn't bother to fit them on the current bike as its a bit fiddly. I have not noticed any discernible screen wobble or movement even at speeds up to .. quickish.

I hate these tall screens...The wobble (without support) and play with your vision.Tinted they are even worse.I fit the GS-ADV screen on my regular GS and I think it works very good and would not go bigger.Best wind protection and no buffeting was probably the Wunderlich-Marathon but I could not look over it and took it off / gave to a friend after one ride...

I'm happy with the screen, although it's always a personal choice depending on the rider height, posture etc. For me, there's no significant buffeting. I've used screens that make your teeth ache, but thankfully, this is not one of them.

I'm very happy with the (unsupported) MRA Vario on my 1200. Air flow is improved so far less buffeting for rider and pillion.

I usually run my MRA Vario on the lowest setting. I noticed recently that there's a bit of a gouge on the inside of the screen.

It's obviously being blown down by wind pressure when moving and contacting the Wunderlich shade that that I have fitted to my Nav V.

It's quite wobbly if I grab the top edge of the screen and move it up and down by hand. It's got me thinking about a pair of Cymarc screen braces...

I found the wobbly screen to be a distraction, so I fitted the Cymarc braces.

I'm 6'5". The OEM screen on my 21 GSA was poor (for me), to say the least of it. At speeds above 60 mph wind buffeting was untenable. And yes I've read all that guff from the so called 'purists' who say 'you're riding a bike and wind is part of it etc etc'. Well, I take the view that we do this for pleasure. I do not consider doing 10 rounds/hours + with Mike Tyson in his prime a pleasure, beaten senseless and fatigued. Consequently the screen was the first thing on the bike I changed, choosing a Puig Touring with fitted aerofoil. Moreover, in my view, there was too much play in the OEM screen without braces to start with which, I suspect will cause fatigue and eventual failure of the OEM brackets given time. It was therefore a no brainer to fit screen braces, which in my case were Cymarc. They're well engineered and relatively easy to fit, which means they're a breeze for any normal person, I have bananas for fingers and no patience ;-). The difference in screen stability is night and day. Now the screen is rock solid. The OEM fittings is a lash up which BMW, as arguably 'the' premier manufacturer, needs to sort out. As an aside coming from a K1600 GTL to the GSA, I miss the GTL's electric screen for the adjustability and convenience of it whilst on the move. Enjoy the GSA......

With you on that BigT, why put up with buffeting and discomfort if you don’t need to.
Off to Scotland for a week in the next few days, first trip on the GS, I’ll see how I get on with the stock setup and go from there.

I had the vario screen on my GS now have same one on my GSA, never fitted the additional supports.
