I am about to buy a new laptop with Windows 7 and have a question about MS Security Essentials vs McAfee Security Center.

One of the features I like about McAfee Security Center is Quick Clean which is a registry cleaner, deletes temporary files etc. Does MS Security Essentials have this feature ?

If I continue with McAfee Security Center should I turn off MS Security Essentials ?

Thanks

If MSE does have registry cleaner etc I've not found them. I use CC Cleaner, a free download for looking after registry, temporary files, unwanted cookies etc.

MS Security Essentials does seem to be doing a good job out here in Saudi (every so often I turn it off and run AVAST just to see how well it is working).

security essentials is only an anti virus program nothing more you need to use it in conjunction with windows firewall and windows defender. You will need a separate registry cleaner as well and I would recommend eusing free registry cleaner. Cleaning the registry provides very little benefit anyway to be honest. Never ever liked mcafee products as they are resource hogs so my vote is save the cash and use security essentials as it does a good job. You also shouldn't run two AV programs at the same time. Performance will be hit plus they seldom play well together.

Thanks

I bought McAfee Security Center again after reading a review in a magazine. I have been using previous versions for years without any problems. It really is install, setup the cleaning, de-fraging and scanning then forget about it.

It seems McAfee and Norton have listened to their customers and rewritten a lot of code in the 2010 version to improve performance and make it less intrusive. Norton got a very good review.

With McAfee you get a family pack for 3 PC's for £41 for a year, with additional PC's £2.95 each. Cheap as chips.
