new pans

i was going to trade my old stainless steel msr pans in for some teflong ones ,but can i ask were you deep frying the bacon ? and i thought that the upper class had slaves for cooking ? Ps can i ask have you tried boiling cabbage and neeps with the msr easy controlable settings ?:thumb2:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:potkettle:hide:hide HRH:rose:hug:roseHRH

MSR BLacklite

I have had the MSR Dragonfly and MSR Blacklite pan set since 1998 and last year the coating started to come off.

Mine have been well used..but here are some notes regarding teflon/ali cook ware;

1) Always use soft utensils,, not steele or you will scratch the surface and food will stick
2) Always put packing between the pans to stop abrasion during transport
3) Always ensure they are 100% dry before packing away as water droplets will oxidise and pitmark the surface, leading to coating coming away.
4) Use a high combustion cooking oil, such as peanut not plan vegetable, that way the oil doesnt burn on ruining the coating, causing abraisive cleaning to be required.
5) Move the pan around and ensure the oil is upto temp before putting food in so it doenst stick.
6) Dont use coarse abrasive washing pads on them or the surface will scratch up.

From the sounds of it, if you werent using steele cooking utensils and scarping away at the bacon, and they were brand new, you have a warrenty claim.

If your using some of the new anodised aluminium pan sets, well it certainly shouldnt happen.

When you recieved your pans/purchased them, were they seperated with padding of some kind? Newer MSR non stick gear comes with packtowels to prevent travel abrasion. If yours were missing the could be the coating may have been loosen/damage during transport from distributor to retail outlet.

I am hoping to be stocking msr stoves shortly with my business. There uk distributor are a fairly decent bunch. I can pass on the details if you havent got them. They might be able to help sort it.

If you did as per their instructions, then it simply shouldnt have happened.

Hope that helps.

cheers rocks

Thanks for advice, i sent an e-mail to msr and they have advised me to send the pan in for inspection.
Hope to get it sorted as this seems a rare occurance
thanks glenn

theres only one way to describe cooking with msr. FULL ON.
Dont like tough old cabbage but it likes me

Pretty good..

They are pretty good bunch. I sent my dragonfly in for a service with a broken pump (it broke about 2 months after i had it, but still worked, just plunger came all way out) and they replaced the pump for free with a totally brand new one with a new design to get over its previous problem and did a major overhaul, replaced the valve needle and the burner plate.. all for £15.00.

I think if you genuinely didnt take hammer the pans with a sharp tool i think they will honour there warrenty and you will find a new one.

You do have to be a bit carefull with them, but they are shoudl certainly not go after one use..

Good luck..

Simmering..

You can get a whisperlite to simmer.. dont pump it up too high, and turn the flow valve on the pump back a turn or so..

No where near as controllable as the dragon fly, but its half the price and this way gives you full power and kind of quater power.. Septic is a master at it.. honest :augie
