MT-09 Tracer.....

My insurance has been a nightmare to be honest, firstly they emailed my documents and my Tracer was a 2011 (because it's being registered on a private plate with an '11' in it) They corrected that then the next documents said the current mileage of the Tracer was 11,000 :nenau

(perhaps they rode it from Japan) then they 'corrected' that and started the cover on Feb 16th so leaving me with no cover on my current bike that i commute on everyday :banghead:

I got my bmv nav V cradle with buttons today along with bare wires so I could plug it to Tracer. Question is...where should I wire it too? I don't think Tracer comes with spare accessory cables with switched live to plug it? BMW bare cable doesn't come with inline fuse either, so I need to order one as well but don't know how many Amps should it be?!

The standard MT09 has a switched power lead stuffed behind the right hand air scoop - I guess it's there for the plug & play accessory socket you can buy from Yamaha. There should also be a switched connection for the heated grips somewhere. This thread on a US forum gives details of the type of connector http://www.fz09.org/forum/10-fz-09-builds/681-q-power-distribution-relay-accessories.html - I haven't looked to see you can get this connector in the UK. FYI, I managed to get the correct connectors to use on my Yamaha Super Tenere from Ebay.

I've ordered one of these and these which I will plug into the accessory socket. This will give me a 12V output for my satnav and a 5V USB output to charge my phone.

Once I have the bike next week I'll have a little mooch around to see if I can spot where the accessory leads are hidden. They were easy to find on the Super Tenere, lurking by the battery.

I will have heated grips fitted so I guess they will take these plugs I reckon. Would need to find correct plug to connect to it anyway. I'll ask dealer on Tuesday

looks like Yamaha removed heated grips from their accessories on UK website...weird!

the dealer won't tell you anything about those leads except to buy the bespoke accessories - the info is out there in forums if you go looking. The plugs & pins are readily available as they are off the shelf, standard components made by Sumitomo

unless the over-engineered, fancy electronics they use, rather than a simple rheostat, have turned out to be unreliable - seems a bit fishy that they can't get someone in China to make a few more before July...

Would any of you chaps who collected thiers today care to report. I saw three new bikes today and two were Tracers, the other a T-max 530 scoooter. Im seriously thinking about pulling my Gs out of a deal and getting one.

I shall report on Tuesday, once I get some miles rolled on. I'm going to do some diy on the bike and fit gps mount, radiator guard on that day, only if weather is not so good...

Yeh really good, only done 40 miles first impressions are it's really light (previous bike was a Crosstourer then 2× R1200GS's before that ) averaged 50mpg coming back from the dealership oh and the heated grips are bloody hot!! Screen seemed pretty good IMO had it on the lowest setting (5'10" me not the screen) but there's gonna be plenty to experiment with. Lots of info and menus for the dash, apparently when you are low on fuel there's a 20ish mile reserve but it counts up to 20 :nenau

. 1st impressions are looking good but I suppose you could say i'm still in the honeymoon period, go and try one

apparently you can adjust the heated grips in the same way as other bikes in the Yamaha range - youtube video showing how to on FJR, which is pretty similar to the Tracer

I like the customization for heated grips levels! Mega useful, compared to GS's two modes - which as we all know from very popular thread in WC section - they don't work as they should on pre 2015 bikes...

If you haven't found them already, these are the best of numerous forums specific to the MT09 Tracer I have found

This one covers all MT09 variants this one uses vbulleting and is similar to navigate as UKGSer

This one is specific to the Tracer/FJ09 - this one has a lot of useful info but the format is not so nice to use

So the HEATED GRIPS on a £8k bike are far superior to the GRIPS on a £15k GS ! Please don't tell the wasser boys, they'll throw the toys out the pram .
