Mudsling, Maler or hugger

I intend to carry a pillion more and want to cut the spray at the back of the bike. I have seen the German Maler and it looks the same but half the price of the mudsling and Nippys now do a hugger that looks better than the Mudsling.
Anyone got any experience of these alternatives?

Do not go anywhere near Maier, it will rub on the swingarm. They know about it but don't care.

Go with the Mudsling

I have a combination of mudsling and hugger that works well. Some use frame infills as well but i don't find i need them.

When I got my -15GSA, previous owner had mounted a MachineArt mudsling. I had an Ilmberger hugger laying around, but it hit the mudsling, so I dropped the hugger.

After a while, the mudsling started to touch the wheel in heavy bumps. But I managed to reshape it (push it further away from the wheel. I strapped several layers of cardboard to the wheel (to push the mudsling outwards), then I used a heatgun and warmed up the mudsling to where it would keep the reformed shape.

Having used both on different bikes, I find the hugger as better for protection of the rider/passenger, while mudsling is better for protecting the rear damper.

Just bought a Chinese copy of the mudsling for £35 from eBay for the 1250GSA.

Compared it to the old cracked one, and there is no real difference. For example, the zip tie holes are round, not oblong like the original.

I got one of these ages ago and never fitted it, recently got another GSA so thought I’d fit it, had to chop it to get it to fit but only took a few minutes with my dremmel

I have both the Puig hugger and a Mudsling - the hugger seems to make no difference, if anything i get more shit thrown up than the last LC that only had a Mudsling. Not sure if other huggers are better...?

I have fitted a hugger, mudsling and Puig infill panels. The first two did not make much difference to the amount of crap thrown up the back of my legs and all over the missus, the infill panel did the job, they look like they are a factory item, well worth it.

Purchased the the mudslinger for my GSA and found that the rear tyre was so close to the mudslinger, i will be returning it for a refund. Never thought to try what Knutk has said and push the hugger out and heat it up.

Good luck trying to find something I will sell be looking, update the thread if you find one suitable.

what make of panel did you get and what location as there appears to be a few available for differant triangles on the bike?

A plate on the centre stand cuts the spray and general muck spreading really quite effectively.

Hi all
I tried the Mudslinger on the bike off the centre stand and it did not touch, but the gap was so small you could not even get the tip of your little finger between tyre and Mudslinger. Not willing to risk it with the gap being so so small.

Have looked on Youtube and found the videos below, one with Mudslinger and then the other where he mentioned it rubbed the tyre. He then went for the hugger as in the second video, have any others tried the hugger (cheap option) not the Wunderlich one.

I fitted the Puig long thin triangular ones that sit just below the seat.
